Last Friday bunch of our office colleagues went for day-trip skiing. Instead of drving, we took the bus trip to tahoe. Since there was lot of snow fall before last week, the skiing conditions were perfect. We had booked for North star but since route 50 was closed we ended up in squaw valley.
We booked the package through “snowbomb”:

Total was $130. (bus ride to and fro, ski rentals, lift tickets, lessons). They also provided refreshment on the bus. Bus trip was very convenient. Pickup/Drop-off was in Sunnyvale-Sports basement.
We started at 4 AM from Sunnyvale and slept almost all the way to Tahoe. We reached there at 9 AM since there was lot of snow fall and snow-chains were needed. Lessons started at 10 AM. I took level-2 lessons and then was comfortable on green slopes. There were 3 green slopes (almost same gradient, but different lenght). I eneded up skiing on all 3 for several times. I tried blue but did fell quite a lot on blue.
Regarding lunch, for vegie there were very few options. I ended up eating mac-cheese and salad. I would recommend peanut butter sandwich.
While driving back watched couple of movies on the bus and they also had a dinner stop. I was back home at 10PM.
Overall pretty good day. I would have enjoyed more if Maitrayee/Aanya could have joined 🙂 Would highly recommend “snowbomb” bus package.
Last December we had a friend over from India and she had taken this package too. It was very convenient for us as all we had to do is drop her off and pick her in the nite, She was very happy with the whole trip.
That sure seems to be a good deal. We drove to Sierra (pretty much have been doing that for the last 3 years now) for 3 days starting at 4:00 AM on the 25th and returning in the evening of the 27th. We rented the gear from Mel Cottons (http://www.melcottons.com/) located at the intersection of Race St and W San Carlos in downtown San Jose. Snowboard rental was $30/- for 3 days and skis were $24/- for 3 days. For the kids we now have season passes – $99/- each for Sierra and NorthStar (with some balckout dates at Northstar). The bunny hill at Sierra is great for first timers or early skiers and snowboarders.
