The age of the digital camera

In the olden days we used to take photos with the “film” camera and photos were carefully and “miserly” taken. Now with the advent of the digital camera and the xGB availability for flashcards, taking lots of photos for any event is now the norm.

However its not easy to browse thru these lots of photos. And in a way it reduces the charm of the limited set of photos per event that was the case 15 years back. But at the same time its hard to resist the temptation to click every memorable moment. In some cases we forget to enjoy the actual moment and instead focus on taking the photo to savor the moment later on in life. 🙂

Also we continue to take photos but do we really go back and savor some of the photos as often as some of them should be visited.

Fortunately technology provides answers also to the problems it creates. 🙂

I have come to the conclusion that approx 20-25 photos per event make for an ideal “showcase” for the event. Now its definitely hard to click just 25 photos for an event but one solution is to tag photos in an album with “EventNameShowCase”. That way one can just look at the limited set of photos whenever one wants to recall an event. Also digital photoframes which continuously stream photos make it easier for us to visit long forgotten photos. Other option is to use the laptop screensaver to display old photos.

I wonder how many photos will I have by the time I get to 50. 🙂 . What is your experience with photos? I know that some people dont even get around to uploading the photos online. Having photos online definitely makes it easier to browse and remember special moments in those idle moments of life.

  1. One added advantage of digital camera is that you can let the kids also take pictures for you 🙂
