Donuts Done Different – Donut Friend

Another find on our recent San Diego trip was Donut Friend in LA.

While driving back home we were just searching some food options around us. I spotted this  Donut place in Pasadena neighborhood of LA that said Vegan. Not sure what it meant my guess was this place would have probably one or two variety of vegan donuts.

We started driving towards the store address on York Blvd…..high street looked not so nice a neighborhood. Amazingly we did not find any regular chains only mom and pop stores and restaurants.

I had my doubts as I entered the store. However to my surprise Donut Friend – DIY-style donut shop, has options to create your own vegan donuts. All their toppings including marshmallows, sauces, donut base, etc is vegan!

You could select one of their signature compilations as a starting pointed order one as is or customize it to your heart’s content!

FOR DIY Donuts -you start by selecting a base,  then pick as many fillings and toppings as it takes to create your masterpiece!

We tried

  • Chocolate Cake with Chocolate cream and Blue Berries topped with Chocolate glaze.
  • Vanilla Cake with fish cream, vegan mochi (candy), strawberries topped with lemon glaze and sprinkles
  • Picked couple limited edition donuts like S’MORRISSEY and RITES OF SPRINKLES.

Everything was super delicious!!! And surprisingly even a customized donut would cost something like less than $5 each based on your selection. Way cheaper than vegan donuts at Whole Foods!

The shop was clean with fast service. Staff is super friendly and patient! There are no tables but there’s a long bar with stools. You could also grab a cup of coffee or scoop of ice cream.

Visit them virtually at http://donutfriend.com/wp3/

or on your next LA trip stop by at 5107 York Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90065.

This place is definitely worth a stop to please that sweet tooth of your’s 🙂
