Valentine’s day is on the way…..stores are stuffed with all fancy things….that you need and dont need….gifts, cards, flowers, choclates…….Is this the only day your love needs to be celebrated…or is this a creation of Hallmark to market their goods and increase sales. There was no holiday between New Years and Easters so they need to increase their sales…..Valentines was maybe one of their brain child just as Mothers day and Fathers day………Dont Moms and Dads need to be celebrated everyday??? Whats your take on these days….do you celebrate each of them
I dont mind celebrating Valentine’s Day as long as I get a good gift and wonderful dinner….but we hate long lines and wait at the restaurants also the commanding fixed menus offered by restaurants……
Ideally what you are saying is right. But Practically, its not possible to “celebrate” spouse/dad/mom everyday.
I dont mind having some days specially marked for occasions. Just as a good reminder that some people do need to be celebrated. ๐
So overall be nice to ur spouse/dad/mom and on special days be extra nice to them. ๐
Surprisingly there is no “Kids Day” Right? ๐
That’s true, Sneha. Although I don’t look forward for celebrating these commercially marked days,
but they do bring some sort of change in the day-to-day life like, goodies in offices.. or at homes may be.
Niyom’s daycare buddies are all wearing cute reds and he took Valentine special lunch to share with all his friends simply for some fun..
I don’t wish to go for dinner only to wait in the long queue but wouldn’t mind expecting lil something ‘extra nice’ ๐
[Prashant, we celebrate ‘Children’s day’ in India though]
Some of the schools have “Grandparents” day also. Kids bring their grandparents to school.
On a lighter note, one of Mita’s Masa was so miffed at all this – he said a day will come where you will start celebrating “kamwali” (house-maid)’s day
Whats one day….an entire TV serial can be made on รขโฌลkamwalis/kamwalasรขโฌย (house-maids ๐
Guess we have a theme for this years Diwali party now – Munnabhai followed by laxmiBAI:)

Since folks have mentioned about Kamvalis / housemaid here, I do want to talk about them.
In US we talk about weather a lot. Even when someone calls their loved ones in US from India, first thing they ask is “how is weather there?”
Just like that here in Mumbai, “kamvali/servant” topic is evergreen. People ask “Do you have good servant? How much do you pay? Does he/she takes too many holidays?” And then the talk is endless. :-)) Sometimes I find it very hilarious.
BTW, right now we are also going through “servant” crisis, so thought of writing about it here.
hey amisha tu bole to Samir ke saath dish washer bhej dee ๐
I tried hard but cannot resist. No offence please.
Jab Samir hee vaapas jaa rahaa hain, to dishwasher ki kya zaroorat hai. Jab Jab koi bhi husband ghar se bahar nikal taa hain, biwi kehti hain “sevak crisis” aa gaya hain. Kya Zamana Aa Gaya Hain ๐
Sorry. Just watching too much yeh jo hai zindagi. ๐ (Dont worry. will make copies soon).
Sirf Dish washer se kaam nahi chalega – Kamwalas/Kaamwalis are multi-taskers in India.
Saath mei washing machine, roomba, mops, etc bhi bhejna padega ๐
Servant crisis “solved” :-)))
