BhaveshG posted a video the other day about “Happy feet – desi style” which was based on the song “Namak” from Omkara.
Now till that point, I did not think much of that song and I did not even know it was from Omkara. But after seeing the video 2-3 times, I got hooked on the song. I tracked down where the song is from and fortunately I have a CD containing that song to satisfy my ears.
Often times in addition to a good song, you need a good context to be able to develop a liking for the song. In this case the context became the Penguins dancing to this song. Whenever I listen to this song i picture the funny portrait of the penguins singing this song in a group.
Similarly I have had other examples where I started liking a song long after it was released based on
– someone singing it at some program on stage
– Song appearing in a different context
– Moody atmosphere and a particular song playing at right time
– Song being played on a good audio system
Similarly Jeegar’s video post made that song memorable for me.
Just some random Monday evening thoughts….. 🙂
In case you didnt know, the ‘Namak’ song is sung beautifully by Rekha Bharadwaj, the wife of director of Omkara – Vishal Bharadwaj.
