KV usually undertakes snow trip in March. Last time some of us did an overnight trip and some of us did a day trip. This time we can attempt to do an overnight trip again for some of us. The Kids have a lot of fun playing together in snow.
Mar 12-13 is a pathshala free weekend. Does that date seem reasonable for a snow trip?
Please discuss options for date and Ski Resort Options. Ski Resort can be 2 separate ones (one for Sat and one for Sun).
AAP interested in overnite but Other than March 12 weekend.
Any weekend will work for us.
In for overnite and 12-13 weekend ok.
For one day. 12-13 weekend fine.
Here is why Mar 12-13 weekend is the most ideal one. Mar 19/20 is Holi. So that weekend is out. Mar 26/27 will have important games for the world cup (quarter finals). Mar 5/6 is pathshala weekend. April becomes too late for a snow trip.
So as of now we will go ahead and plan for Mar 12/13 weekend.
Now lets discuss the possible venues.
Count us in if going to Sierra @ Tahoe
Right Now, Mar 13 (Sun) shows as Snow. Sat shows cloudy but Fri is snow.

Lets wait and watch. If the weather is “Snowing” we cannot go due to unsafe conditions on the road.
Count us in
very tempting… will check this post next week (and my work schedule :)).
Adventure mountain in Tahoe
http://adventuremountaintahoe.com/
is a informal area where you just pay 15$ for paking and then sled or tube down the multiple runs they have. You can bring your own sled or rent from them.
Yelp has good reviews all pointing to good fun:
http://www.yelp.com/biz/adventure-mountain-at-lake-tahoe-echo-lake
Some updates. No one has really put in any venue suggestion.
Sat seems fine weather wise. We may have a evening drizzle on Sunday. Maybe by tomorrow Sunday’s weather state will be more apparent. Lets assume that Sunday is fine too for purpose of planning.
Notes:
1) Jash, Kairavi, Rushabh are all tied to Sierra at Tahoe since they all have lesson packages which they need to complete (at least for a day). Sierra at Tahoe is expensive otherwise for 1 day skiiers.
2) Soda Springs offers the most flexibility for a family since it has a wonderful planet kids, cheap rental+lift ticket and tubing as well.
3) Boreal has skiing and tubing but no play area for toddlers. On the other hand it has night time skiing included with your package.
4) We will have some 1 dayers also. Is Sat more preferable for 1 dayers?
One possible planning scene is like this:
1) SAT at Soda Springs.
2) Stay over night either at north lake tahoe (same hotel as last time) or drive in night to south lake tahoe and stay in hotel in south lake tahoe.
3) SUN : Some people goto Sierra at Tahoe for skiing. Some people goto Adventure Mountain near Sierra at Tahoe. Sierra at Tahoe also offers tubing but that is more suited for kids than adults.
If one dayers prefer Sun instead of Sat then the above can be reversed also.
1) SAT : Sierra at Tahoe / Adventure Mountain
2) SUN: Soda Springs
http://www.tahoebest.com/skiing/winter_activities.htm#Tubing
Week-end Group rates (20+ people)for tubing at Soda Springs is $20.
to get the group rates booking has to be done by thursday.
We bought a 3-pak lesson for Aanya @ Sierra. Aanya had great time.
Getting a group of $54+tax at Tahoe Inn (north lake tahoe, where some of us had stayed last year).
FYI – Adventure Mountain, you have to climb up the slope yourself. Sierra @ Tahoe is a decent slope for adults (you can take toddler along with you in the tube), adults can go on that one also. It’s not as big as the slope of soda springs though.
Also Soda springs has pedestrian passes – read this (http://www.skisodasprings.com/rates/)
Those guests whom are not skiing/boarding or tubing may purchase a Pedestrian Pass for $10*.
*Pedestrian Passes are for customers who want to observe from base area, this pass does not enable you to ride lifts or participate in snow play activities. Pedestrians must remain along base area.
I vote for Sierra at Tahoe 1 day & Adventure Mountain another day.
Would prefer not drive between South & North Lake Tahoe and just be on same side for both days.
Or Sierra both days, price at Sierra may match gas price to drive North π
Has anybody tried Snowshoeing or snowmobile in Tahoe earlier?
Anybody interested in exploring that option?
tried snowmobiling. would like to try snowshoeing.
Adventure Mountain does not have a lodge/restaurant where you can sit down to take a break or eat.
for restrooms there are portables
We prefer Sunday as 1-dayers.
We prefer Sunday as 1-dayers
Since the time will be moved forward Sat night, that will mean either getting up an hour early on Sunday or getting one hour less at the ski place.
Sierra-at-tahoe – Blizzard Mt. group discount rate for min group of 20ppl will be $20 for 2hrs. They also have $10 for Snow Play area which will waived if we are going as a group. Kids above 42inch & above can tube solo. Kids under 42inch will have to tube with Parents.
To reserve group rate call Katty Hunter 530-543-3133.
No group discount for snowshoeing.
We prefer Sat as a one dayer
Sat shows Sunny. Sun weather shows mostly cloudy now. So we are on for this weekend.
Best to buy a sled or saucer if you dont have one. Better in the long run.
SAT : Sierra at Tahoe
– lift tickets available for less price at craigslist
– eat at lodge or bring your own lunch.
– Snow play areas are free. Can sled down small slopes good for toddlers.
– Tubing is 30$ for 2 hours.
– For those who are coming for 1 day only sat, they can goto adventure mountain for some time and then come to sierra at tahoe for food.
– Dinner can be HOT pizza π
SUN: Adventure Mountain
– We can order or make thepalas for lunch
– Adventure mountain is mainly for sledding and tubing only. No Skiing available.
– Sleds are available for rent also
– It will be great if someone has a saucer.
For overnight accomodation Kalpa will post rates for hotels in South Lake Tahoe. Please indicate here if you are interested in overnight accomodation. Also please indicate who is coming when.
accommodation rates
Lazy S Lodge for 4 rooms – $69+ tax
>4 rooms – $59+ tax
Motel 6 $62.09+ tax (rates on the internet)
Vagabond Inn $60+ tax king bed
$50+ tax 2 double beds
Vagabond Inn is close to Stateline and Lazy S Lodge & Motel 6 are close to Kmart
I have a sled if somebody would like to borrow since I am not going to Tahoe this weekend.
Neelam,
We would like to borrow if someone hasn’t claimed it already π
Seems like a proper group trip on the lines of previous years is not possible this year due to various reasons. Hence we (Prashant-Dimple) are changing our plans and going for 1 day only (Sat). Kairavi will do her classes at Sierra at Tahoe and in the meanwhile we will go and visit Adventure Mountain.
Jaideep-Kalpa and family are planning to do Sierra at Tahoe for both days (Sat and Sun).
If you are joining us at Adventure Mountain on Sat then feel free to let us know.
Jash will be taking his lessons on Sunday @ Sierra At Tahoe. So Jaideep, Kalpa like it or not, you will have company on both days π
We want to come on Sat – I will be able to confirm 100% tomorrow. We are not sking – so will join people going to Adventure Moutain. Prashant- what time are you planning to leave from here on Sat?
Not coming- you guys have fun! π
Hey Bhavini ,
Nobody has claimed it. You can get it. I am mostly at home tommorrow
Adventure Mountain is adventurous!!
Go face up, face down, doubles, sled, saucer, tube, whichever stunning way u like. Once you pay 15$ per car, u have unrestricted access to big snow park with 8-10 groomed slopes plus various small snow piles & slopes all around. One can sled anywhere. Only part is walking up the slopes but when you are thinking what different way you want to go down this turn even that becomes interesting. Walk-up trails between every couple of slopes, hence you donβt have to walk across all lanes to go to start point for uphill. There were groupβs barbecuing -picnicking at bottom sledding slopes only. Ski/water proof pants/jacket highly recommended. Goggles must.
Found out about this another tubing place from facebook: http://tubesrus.info/
The picture had a double tube (in the shape of an 8).
