Burglaries are on the rise in the Bay Area. One of my friend’s home in Fremont got broken into and laptops/jewelry stolen. There was another incident in our neighborhood where the thieves acted like roof checkers but were actually carrying metal detectors to detect jewelry etc.
Poonam Gala reported another incident in Milpitas where a prowler was sighted. Here is summary from her email which a police officer sent.
“This email is being written to inform you of a prowling incident that occurred on the 623 (b) of Martil Way which is located near the intersection of Jacklin Rd. and Escuela Parkway. The incident occurred on 1-31-11 (Friday) at 1130 hours. During this incident, the reporting party (RP) was at home when she heard banging on her front door. She looked through the peep hole and saw an unknown race male in his 40s with a light complexion wearing a back pack. The RP then went to the back area of her residence and saw another unknown race male wearing a dark colored hooded sweater crouching down near the rear sliding door. The subjects saw the RP in the house and then exited the side gate. The suspects got into a dark blue, older model Lexus and left the area. The RP did not call the police department until 2 hours after the incident. The Milpitas Police department. would like to remind everyone to immediately report suspicious activity so that efforts can be made to investigate the incidents as they are occurring. The above mentioned method of operation is the latest tactic being used by suspects to break into homes.”
Feel free to discuss ways to protect homes in the comments.
