Congrats Everyone for Doing a Good Job in making KaVita reach the 50th edition. 🙂 Since its close to Valentine’s Day, I think that the image is appropriate.
It was sometime after the July 2005 Jaina convention that we decided to try out an experiment. An experiment called KaVita. A place for Kutchis to exchange thoughts online. There was already lot of offline gatherings but it was time for online gatherings too. With that in mind, the first KaVita came out in July 2005. And Now we are at the 50th KaVita. The idea was that just like the Kutchis back in Mumbai – our older generation rely on Patrika to get their daily community news we here in Silicon Valley go one step further and create an online version based on the same theme. “To connect people and bring the community closer“.
Of course we are still not where we want to be and that can be seen from the few that dominate the major “content contributors” list. :-). And that is understandable since this generation is still getting used to the Web2.0 world.
In my eyes this has been a relatively successful experiment though your mileage may vary. The contributions that you have made have not only helped enlighten people within KV but sometimes outside people too. Many of the articles have a “lasting” information value to it and people keep coming back to refer to these posts.
Hopefully distances will matter less (as some people relocate here and there) in our ties with each other since in an ideal world we will still communicate via this online kutchi world. Of course we have seen very few examples of this yet. 🙂 (People who relocate have sort of forgotten us). But we are optimistic for the future and wish that the community continues to thrive and grow. Looking forward to another 50 issues and hopefully seeing a stats list where the gap between contributors and consumers is far less.
If you have suggestions on how to improve the site or some new features let it out.
Onward and Upward….Together we March….
Happy 50th Anniversary !!!
