What are some healthy and yummy treat alternatives to candy ? This year I have to take halloween treats to Tanvi’s school. I would like to take something that kids can still get excited about.

From my mailing list –
I went to Costco and bought a huge bucket of small-packaged Halloween pretzels. Not entirely healthy but wanted to pass out something different this year (salty instead of sugary!).

Most people wonβt let their kids eat homemade treats unless they know the person giving it out.
If you are looking for non-treats, I would suggest things like Halloween style pencils or stickers or non-food items.

I usually give away pretzels (it costs more but…) and small lollipops. Usually my kids bring home pretty much the same amount of candies that I have given away and I do the buy back process (suggested by some parents in this list last year).
It may cost me more $$ but it cost less than a cavity in their teeth π

Heard some folks giving crayons. I don’t know where to buy but I do know if you buy some standard/regular box sets, there are some clear party favor bags (like 200 for few dollars) you can place them in and tie closed yourself with maybe black/orange ribbon. I was planning on doing that since I have lots of leftover favor bags. I’ll just have to trust that parents actually look through the treats kids bring home halloween night and let them know these are non-edible but real crayons π

They are selling card game packs at Costco that I think will be a hit!

We always give out toys. The party stores usually sell bags of toys as party favors. You can get small containers of playdoh, light up bracelets, jumping frogs, neon colored dinosaurs. One year we gave out mini kazoos — we were the most popular house on the block.

playdough, goldfish crackers.

You can do pretzels, goldfish (comes in Halloween packs), play doh (comes in packs for Halloween), tattoos.

popcorn packets
We did not get candies for last 2 yrs – party favors it was for treats (halloween shaped rulers, rings, puzzles etc). Kids enjoyed grabbing them as well. I assume in your case school needs edible treats and not halloween related toy stuff.
Candies were not allowed in Shivani’s school. Coloring book, puzzle book, carmel covered Apples or chocolated covered Strawberry, Oatmeal chocolate chips cookies, raisin box
Notice that so far the only comments have been from Moms. I am sure the snippets of comments inside the first comment was collected from other Moms as well.
Conclusion – Moms want to rob the kids of the joy of eating candies on Halloween π
I got halloween activity booklets and bred sticks and cheese..
@jayesh – Not so much to deprive the kids of the joy of eating candies as much as to prevent the dentist bill to fix the cavities . Right Dr. Smita ?
Will someone ask the kids as to what they want? Come guys…Its hallooween….
I was looking forward to visiting many homes on Halloween Day and collecting bags of candy so that I can take them to India on my India trip (and dont have to goto Costco to shop for candies). :-))
