Post created to highlight some things which can come in handy during this camping trip to Calaveras Big Trees State Park.
1) Weather is going to be unpredictable. Besides packing blankets, etc make sure you bring plenty of warm clothes. If you have thermals not a bad idea to bring them. Dress in layers so that you can put on or put off easily depending on weather. Also a monkey cap is a good idea for the cold if any.
2) Some Yellowjackets (wasps) may be there at the camp during daytime. Now these are harmless as such but its just annoying when they hover and buzz around your table. Last year we had taken a citronella candle and when lighted it managed to keep the wasps away. The brand name was “Cutter Citro Guard”. We had taken it some years back from Walmart but not sure where it is available now. If anyone finds it please post it here. Wont harm to have a few of these around at campsite during food time.
3) Wading slippers or shoes can be useful to wade in the river.
4) Bring insect repellent spray.
You can also refer to this earlier post on KV some years back about Camping Nice to Haves.

Here is a nice article on how citronella candles are useful to keep mosquitoes and other flying insects away.

I found this candle in Target for $ 5.69
Thanks Poonam. It will be useful post-camping also whenever you are outdoors.
A “talpatri” (big plastic mat) to keep under your tent is very important for this camping trip. It keeps the moisture away from the bottom.
