Like me, many of you might be interested in knowing paper work related things other than normal good food, bad pollution and worst traffic about India.
It would be nice to know about obstacles faced by people moving/moved permanently to India from USA.
Some topics for example –
- US/INDIA income tax with US PASSPORT/INDIAN PASSPORT/GREEN CARD OR H1B VISA WITH USA INCOME etc.
- What if you have home in USA and don’t want to sell etc etc…
People related to this – please see if you can shed some light on these topics in “INDIA/MUMBAI Directoryâ€
Thanks in advance.

So on the Bank account if your friend wants he / she can open a HSBC / HDFC/ SBI / CITI Bank NRO/NRI account in India and transfer the money there or just leave it here in case your friend want to xfr any amount from 401k or even Brokerage account. Have that bank account connect to your NRO/ NRI account.
It is good to leave the Brokerage account as is if they still have stocks and do not want to sell at this time.
Furniture’s – You get all of them in India that suit the weather there. But if there are some new furniture that will fit then you can rent a trailer and ship it.
Tax filing will be required to if you are planning to return any time in future to the US. It is always good to file it next year.
The SSN can be left as is.

– SSN – He can keep it, not to surrender.
Looks he dont have GC – then it is a separate topic
– Bank A/c – Take the money, can keep them in open unless no maint fee Anyway they can be closed from India also over the phone.
– Brokerage accounts – If not trading, better to close
– Shipping stuff – I think all the stuff are available in India these days for the same price including latest LED 3D TV etc. Shipping is again real headache and the money spent on it can be used to get brand new ones, my 2 cents.
