  1. I asked Kairavi this question and she replied with the obvious. Her favorites were “Kheer”, “Custard Fruit Pudding” and in drinks she liked all the options.

Overall the shala food is really good. But it would be nice to hear from the kids as to what they think.

Also taking this opportunity to thank Hasmukh, Poonam and others who help out with preparing food for the Shala. You all are doing a wonderful job of volunteering. Keep it Up. Folks like you are inspiration for others who are thinking of volunteering.

  2. Harsh like Pasta, Chole & Puri
What Harsh saying for Cookies – I am not finding my favourite cookies i.e. Oreo, Ritz cracker
    Drinks – I love Lemonade

    Kavita

  3. A big thanks to the pathshala food volunteers, you guys do an awesome job every pathshala sunday. I asked Jash for his favorite and his answer was obvious – Kheer and the custard 🙂
His favorites other than dessert have been pasta, quesadilla as well. He does not like rice that much 🙁 . We did not participate in shala camp this year, but last years sleepover menu dinner (mexican) and breakfast (pancakes) seemed to have been enjoyed by all (adults as well as kids 🙂 ) .

  4. Kids liked Bread Upit?

  5. Very creative Jain menu & enthusiastic volunteer. Big kudos for all the efforts. It requires lot of patience & commitment.
Typically Kairavi is not too enthu about snack during Shala. Somehow I feel very overwhelmed myself by the whole process too. When she was in only Jain Shala we used to skip snack most of the times. But now that we reach home by 1.30/2pm, it helps if she eats something in between. Due to ever increasing number of Shala students and JCNC members, not sure if there is easy alternative to rush management which happens during snack time.
One of the many questions I think of – Is Shala Snack always being planned for parents as well?? Or just that over time, parents started sharing it and kind volunteers didn’t object. I typically don’t take separate plate for myself. If Kairavi doesn’t finish hers, then help her out. Should parents be requested to take any different approach to ease out whole thing for kids there?? Should Shala serve dry snacks/packet snacks/fruit which doesn’t require proper handling of plates & sitting down for all kids?

  6. Rushabh forced himself to eat it. Miloni refused to eat it.

  7. Saahas like pasta, quesadilla and chocolate milk.

  8. Thanks for giving important comment

Might be all kids are same when they are out or when they are with friends. When Harsh meet his Shala friends, he doesn’t like to eat at all just like to play, we force him to eat.

About rush management, we were discussing last Sunday how we can manage the crowd for rush time and we have couple of idea. Might be we will explore the idea in next few weeks during shala. Hopefully that works. As every one knows that Derasa have small dinning area and it’s hard to manage the crowd. So I keep on shouting saying “Keep moving” :). When weather is good we try to serve out side.

Shala snack is always plan for parents too. We count children’s + adult during preparation of snack. So approx. we prepare snack for 550 people.

About the dry snacks/packet snacks option this is good idea, I don’t know if any one thought of this or not. If any one has idea what we can serve in dry snacks / packet snacks please let us know.

  9. For dry snacks – Boondi Ladoo/Gathiya can be one of the options, india style prabhavna.

One of the thoughts to handle snack time rush when serving indoors (I am sure you folks have more insight into what works and what not) – let the kids only in (1st grader onwards). And only one parent with younger kids first. Let all others in, once the rush eases little bit.
And Dimple – You got a green signal to not think about whether to eat or not 🙂

  10. Prerna and Arya like pasta, chocolate milk and cookies, quesadilla, cucumber sandwich, juices, some soups. They do not like to eat peanut butter sandwich, upma and did not taste the bread upit.

  11. Pasta is always a welcome for Rushabh. He doesn’t care about the beverages. He eats most of the fruits.

  12. I’ll answer for the 6 kids I bring to pathshala. They like Quesadilla, sandwich, pasta, puri & chole. They do not like rice dishes, upma, or bread upit. For some reason they did not care for the custard or kheer either. They enjoy all the drinks. They like fruits. They love cookies. Thank you for coordinating all the shala snacks it is a big job considering the number of parents & kids involved with the space constraint. Once the weather gets better maybe serving outside is an option.

  13. Jainisha did not like bread upit. She liked idli, quesadilla, soup, fruits, all kinds of cookies, and all drinks. For dry snacks – one sweet/dry naasta.
It would be nice to have more volunteers in hallway for the rush.
    Thank you to all volunteers.

  14. Rashi and Ruchi likes pasta, chole puri, quesadilla, soup, fruits, chips and cookies and hot choclate. They did not like bread upit.

  15. One suggestion would be to tone down the spiciness of the food. Overall the food is great but I see Kevali and other kids avoid it when the food is too spicy.

  16. For Bread upit looks like lot of people don’t liked. I was about to buy 33 double pack of bread, but I bought 27 pack and from that even 3 1/2 packet we didn’t used. Personally even I did not liked.

Tusharbhai About Spicy we will take care that is sure.

Bhaviniben whatever you said somewhat that’s the plan we were discussing last Sunday after lunch.

BTW I got very good response from every one. Thanks a lot for your time and feed back.

If we can continue thread for every Shala lunch that will be gr8. Not too long but when new menu we introduce. Use of this thread is
    1) We can make food which children’s love to eat and
    2) Other part we don’t waste food.

  17. Shivani usually likes all the food except Bread Upit. Her favorite is Poori and Chole.
