Hiking Season is here. :-). We had lot of fun hiking in previous years.
Hopefully we can go for 2-3 group Hikes in Q1 of 2010.
Are there any parks that you would want to hike in? If so please list them here.
The hikes from previous time which can be repeated are Castle Rock State Park , Uvas Canyon (nice waterfalls), Mission Peak, Alum Rock State Park.
Can we go for hikes on non pathshala sundays as many of us have activities going on for kids on saturdays.
yes. we will go on non pathshala sundays.
Peacocks @ Pichetti Ranch and the area at the mid of the hike to play a game of Kho-Kho was fun. Hoping that they still have the peacocks and the picnic area at the origin point.
This is the season to go to Ano nuevo……they have guided walks till march……sea lions give birth and migrate by feb end – march…..we can group book one of the weekends!
Thanks for reminding about Ano nuevo Minati. It surely would be lot of fun for the kids. The seals are huge, no wonder they call them elephant seals and it’s a sight to watch them. I think you can see without the guided tour as well.

Now that is the kind of information we are looking out for from KV members.
Not sure whether it will fit a group of our size but definitely something that KV families can try in smaller groups.
Walks are in groups of 20.
Price per ticket is 7$ (kids under 3 free).
Auto Parking : 10$.
Based on feedback over the weekend, there is considerable interest for a hike this Sunday. Even though the weather has been bad, it promises to be clear up by weekend (Cloudy).
Since it has been a wet week, we should choose a hike which has got paved roads. Rancho San Antonio was a suggestion which came from Nilesh. Any other suggestions for a paved road hike this Sunday?
Ano Neuvo is a cool place to go to. Gets booked very fast, need early reservations. However its more like a short guided walk, will not include that in the list of places for a ‘hike’ though..
Pichetti Ranch or Rancho S.Antonio or any other works.
Future hikes for Q1/Q2..
* With all this rain, Berry Creek Falls Loop in Big Basin SP would be a good hike after about a month or so. However, it is 11+ miles hike (ouch my body hurts thinking about this). You can take a shorter loop (6 miles) but no waterfalls.
* Mt. Tamalpais to Stinson beach and back (Matt Davis-Steep Ravine loop). Best is to hike down from Mt. Tam to Stinson Beach on Matt Davis trail.. Have a short picnic at Stinson Beach and hike up Steep Ravine trail. Spring would be a good time for this when the weather is good for the beach.
* Almaden QuickSilver Park has bunch of good hikes.
* For paved hikes/biking, Los Gatos creek trail.. You can start from campbell (85/17) to Vasona Lake and back.
Jeinay, 10 miles is a long hike with kids :-). Little Yosemite in Sunol Wilderness seems like a good reasonable hike for waterfalls with kids.

Almaden QuickSilver Park is a nice suggestion.
With no Sunday being available in Feb (Feb 14 is long weekend, feb 28 is pathshala day), we will have to hike on a Sat in Feb. Mostly that day seems like Feb 20.
Is Sat. afternoon 2 or 3pm hike an option? These days temp. pretty consistant throught out the day. Infact at times later in the day is better. And most kids will be done with their morning classes.
I am up for an afternoon hike.
Afternoon hikes will be perfect!
Rushabh has basketball on Saturday mornings till end of feb, so afternoon hikes are fine with us too.
Afternoon will be fine with too.
Prerna and Arya have Swim classes until the end-of-May on saturday – except for Spring Break.
Afternoon hike will be fine.
in for afternoon hike.
Lets decide on Feb 20, 2pm for a afternoon hike. Hope this time works for everyone.
Is the venue going to be the same San Antanio or another place
Venue will be different. (Since some folks have already been to Rancho San Antonio).
2 Hikes which look very interesting to me for this Sunday.
1) Henry Cowell State Park:
101 North Big Trees Park Road
Felton, CA 95018
Hike can be combined with railroad ride which goes thru the park. Will be fun for kids.

2) Henry Coe State Park
9000 E Dunne Ave
Morgan Hill, CA 95037
Spring is a great time to visit to see the various wildflowers.

Both look very interesting to me to leave out any one. 🙂
Maybe do one in April and do second one in May (when Galas (S1) are here).
Any preferences?
Are they stroller friendly
Neelam
Both hikes are listed as easy with little elevation. So strollers should be able to handle the path well. KVites are there to help in case of little hard areas.
My opinion would be to reserve Henry Cowell hike for May (since its shaded) and it would be nice to goto beach in hot May after the railroad ride.
For this Sunday, lets choose a place that is good for Spring Wildflowers.
Bhavini pointed out one of her friends went to Stile Ranch Hike for wildflowers.

For the Stile Ranch hike that my friend went, putting his description here for the pictures he posted – “This is a great hiking trail, with a good sprinkling of wildflowers. This is in Almaden Valley. Surprising how a place 15 minutes from home can seem so disconnected and pretty”
