Recently we visited Yellowstone and would definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn’t been there yet. Of course we all know about the hot water springs and geysers at Yellowstone but the park has much more to offer. Wildlife, waterfalls, canyons and lakes are some of the other things to be seen there.
We stayed outside the west entrance of the park in West Yellowstone. We flew from here to Salt Lake City and then drove there (about a six hour drive). Most of the vista points in the park are along the path of the number 8. We did the south loop for one day and the north loop the next. Most places have wooden walkways so taking a stoller was not a problem but you have to walk quite a bit.
While we just missed seeing a bear at the park, on our way back to Salt Lake City we did stop at a safari near a town called Rexburg and saw some bears and wolves there. If time permits you could also visit Grand Teaton national park which is to the south of Yellowstone.

How many nights were you there? What time did you start from Salt Lake City for Yellowstone? When did you go? Where did you stay? Details please. 🙂
Started from SJC to SLC on Friday morning. Reached there by noon and started driving around 2:00 after lunch. Reached West Yellowstone (that is the name of the town) by 8:00. Stayed there for 3 nights at the Holiday Inn. We went there the weekend after camping and was nice cause the rivers were still flowing (have heard they dry up towards the end of summer) and days were long. Take binoculars if you want to see wildlife and also mosquito repallent. Caps, sunscreen, umbrella (thunderstorms are quite common) and jackets all were needed on both days in the park.
I think many Bay Area Kutchis are still to visit Yellowstone (I could be wrong). This could be a good reference for them. Yellowstone seems to have good scenery in winter too but I doubt many of us would want to go there during winter. What are the airfares that you got and by which airlines and how much ahead did you book for hotel and air?
Another person who has been there is Jayesh. So either of Samir/Amisha/Jayesh would be good to talk to before going there. 🙂
Winter would not be a good time as a lot of the park is closed due to snow. We flew delta and had slightly expensive tickets — southwest might be a better option. Also BhaveshG has been to Yellowstone.
Another good place to visit is “Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park”. These parks can be done alongwith Grand Canyon trip. Bhavesh/Mita seem to be the in-house travel expert – for travel destinations within USA :), since they had mentioned about this place to us.
We visited Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park almost 5 years back and had combined that with Grand Canyon trip. We loved both Zion and Bryce and would surely recommend them to all of you.
http://www.nationalparkreservations.com and http://www.nps.gov, both are very good web sites to get info about the national parks in US.
Big fan of Bryce canyon and Zion. Personally feel that Byrce canyon is much-much better than Grand Canyon…Have been there around 4-5 times..
