Have you reported your change in Citizenship to the Social Security Administration ?

Why do it?

  1. Easier to apply for and receive social security benefits in the future.
  2. Easier to get a replacement if lost.
  3. Qualifies you for various benefits like disability, retirement and other social security benefits.

Steps

  1. Visit one the local social security office (https://secure.ssa.gov/ICON/ic001.action#officeResults)
  2. Carry US passport and 1 other form of ID (Drivers License will do)
  3. The local officer will update and give you a receipt (you have the option to retain the old card until the new one arrives)

Time

  • Takes 5-7 days to get a new social security card (will have the same number)
