Ding Dong Dang – An interesting game

Recently during one of the outings here in Pune, we came across an interesting game – “Ding-Dong-Dang”. Heres how it is played.

Form teams of 3 each. (In our game 3 of a family formed a team, but you can very well have non family members form a team also. ).

Within each team, each person has to stand one behind the another forming a straight line. All teams together stand in a circle. Assign a number to each team starting with “1”.

The first team (with number 1) has to start the proceedings. The first person of Team-1 has to say “Ding 1”. The second person has to say “Dong 1”. The third person has to say “Dang”. But instead of saying his own team number he/she has to say the number of some other team. So he/she can say “Dang-4”.

Then the team number-4 has to repeat the above steps. first person will say “Ding 4”. Second person will say “Dong 4”. And third person will say “Dang” and take number of some other team. So for example “Dang 6”.

In the initial rounds, the third person should not take the name of the team standing on either side of them. So don’t call out your immediate neighboring team. Then in later rounds when the number of teams is less this restriction can be removed.

A team gets out if
a) it is not able to say the right sequence of “Ding-x”, “Dong-x”, “Dang-y” or hesitates in saying it.
b) the third person says the number of a team which has already got out. So if Team-3 is already out, and the third person of Team 8 says “Dang-3”. Then Team 8 is out.
(So the third person in each team has to pay attention to which teams have got out).

The winner is the last team which is left after all other teams get eliminated. In the end when there are just 2 teams remaining, the rules can be made a bit trickier by adding one of the following rules.

Instead of saying own team’s number in “Ding”,”Dong”, “Dang” keep alternating between own team number and opposition team number. So for example if Team 2 and Team 8 are the remaining teams then
Team 2 has to say : “Ding-2″,”Dong-2”, “Dang-8”
Team 8 has to say : “Ding-8″,”Dong-8”, “Dang-2”
Team 2 has to say : “Ding-8″,”Dong-8”, “Dang-2”
Team 8 has to say : “Ding-2″,”Dong-2”, “Dang-8”
And so on till someone fumbles.

—– OR ——-

Instead of keeping to the sequence of “Ding”,”Dong”, “Dang” keep alternating between “Ding”, “Dong”, “Dang” and “Dang”, “Dong”, “Ding”. So for example if Team 2 and Team 8 are the remaining teams then
Team 2 has to say : “Ding-2″,”Dong-2”, “Dang-8”
Team 8 has to say : “Ding-8″,”Dong-8”, “Dang-2”
Team 2 has to say : “Dang-2″,”Dong-2”, “Ding-8”
Team 8 has to say : “Dang-8″,”Dong-8”, “Ding-2”
And so on till someone fumbles.

Tip: Since the middle person in each team has the easier job relatively, if there is a child in the team then he/she can be made to stand in the middle position (second position).

  1. Nice game. Thanks for sharing Prashant. It is a great variation of the Yes Sir, No Sir, Who Sir. Look forward to playing this one sometime soon.
