This is a nice ice breaker game. If you have some newcomers in your group and want them to learn the names of other people in the group quickly and vice versa this is a nice way to do it. Credit again goes to Samir/Amisha.
You split the group into 2 teams (just like volleyball). Both teams stand across each other. There is no net and no volleyball of course. You start the game by serving the “imaginary” ball to opposite team. You do this by calling out name of any person of opposite team (lets assume “P”) and doing action of serving the volleyball. The person in the opposite team (“P”) now needs to pass “imaginary” ball to one of his own teammates (lets assume “Q”) by calling out their name and doing action of passing the ball. This person now needs to pass ball to opposite team by calling out name of a person from that team. And so on. So only during the serve is one required to pass directly to opposite team. All other times, it has to goto one team member first before going on to opposite team.
Points: Normal Volleyball points rule apply. Following is the way in which ball is considered to be dropped.
1) If a person hesitates or delays in calling out a name then the ball is considered to be dropped.
2) If a person calls out a name but wrong person responds in same team then ball is considered to be dropped.
3) If a person calls out a name but wrong person responds in opposite team then ball is considered to be dropped.
Variations:
a) You can formulate your own rules for passing the ball between same team and opposite team.
b) You can take people out of the game when they drop the ball instead of keeping them in the game.
