Known as Temple Square, this is the largest temple (square footage wise) of the church of Jesus Christ and also considered as Utah’s popular destination. Located in the Salt Lake city downtown, it is about 20 minutes drive from airport. SLC airport provides a free shuttle to visit this beautiful location.
During a layover, our flight from SLC was delayed and we got a wonderful opportunity to visit this place.
A courtesy shuttle ride is available from the two SLC terminals. The shuttle driver was an old guy and his wife was our tour guide on the way to the destination. The shuttle also stopped at KOA from where they picked up other tourists. The shuttle tour guide also called and booked us for a tour since we were on a time crunch and looking at mom tried to arrange a tour in Hindi. They have tours in about 20-30 languages, unfortunately we were late and they only had one hindi speaking tour guide who had left for the day.
We just had an hour to spend at the temple and the tour guide gave us quick 25 minutes tour of the main temple, their meditation room etc. There is a seperate tour of the conference centre – a 21000 seating auditorium which does not have a single pillar in the middle. We did this tour on our own as the operated tours are an hour long and we were short on time. There is a living garden on top of this conference centre and also a beautiful view of the Utah mountains.
The tour guides and church patrons were very friendly and overall excited to see some Indians there 🙂
Temple square also has a genealogy library, museum and if you have to visit everything you would need couple of days. There is a mall, lots of restaurants and it was a very lively and friendly place. So if you have time during your visit to SLC, highly recommend this place.

This has been on my list everytime we had a stopover in Salt Lake City.
But never managed to visit the Temple. Nice post!
It is also in famous in many other ways — “Mormon Scandal”, “Warrren Jeff”. No doubt it is a good tourist place..
