Sony LIV – Watch all sony tv apps in HD on iPad/iPhone without any ads
Skyfire browser – to watch flash based cricket streaming πŸ˜‰
Magic Jack – to make free calls using data plan to save mobile minutes

  3. Some of the most frequent apps on my iPhone are : WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Mail, Y! Finance, Notes, Google (for search), Google Maps. I use “Reminders” (synced with my Y! calendar, Dimple’s Y! calendar) for Home based ToDo tasks and “gTasks” (synced with my work gmail account) for Work based ToDo tasks.

Needless to say since they are most frequently used, they are all on my Home screen.

Other Apps that I use “Whats on India” to see whats coming on TV, “in” Linked In App, “CricInfo” for cricket.

  4. Whatsapp – Best way of short communication!

  5. MyFitnessPal- to check calories of food eaten (It has lots of indian food options ;))
Moves(sign of a phone in jeans pocket) and Pedometer(sign of a foot) – Count the steps we walk
QRReader and Amazon – To scan barcode documents (YMCA schedule) or check cost of products in store and verify which one gives a better deal.
Reliance – direct dial app to talk internationally

  6. In addition to few already mentioned above TOI & Podcasts.
Listening to news/discussion on radio during commute was one of daily routin in US. In India, its songs only radio. Now have subscribed to few podcast. One of them is ‘The Song Tree’ which is from BBC Learning thro music. One more activity for kids during long drives.

  7. An aside here:
I went back to dumb phone about 3 years ago and haven’t switch to smartphones since. I was considering doing it now. I still cannot justify the trade-off of convince of a small really-dumb phone that fits nicely to the ear vs smartphone. I find texting, to-do, sync grocery list on smartphones the best utilities but can live without it.
It has become an expectation that one has information on fingertips using smartphones. Smartphone owners do not realize this expectation as they fulfill it. But my inability to look up something has caused annoyance to people on at least on a couple of occasions in recent past.
I don’t get good dumb phones anymore. I have to buy used from ebay.

  8. Too many new apps to be seen! Whatsapp,Viber are big hit these days!!
Apps which I like/use more(apart from the commonly used): Bump, Gas Buddy, iTunesU, SoundHound.

Nitul: SonyLiv was new to me. Looks good one!
Sejal: Too much calorie conscious huh! πŸ˜‰ Different apps to try now.
Dimple: Keep learning and exploring πŸ™‚
Kalpendu: Couple of years ago, I was also on the same lines as yours thinking why do we really need smartphone! But it has its own pros and cons.
    – One of the reasons being, smartphone is an easy, faster way of communication with folks in India (whatsapp, iMessage,Fring, etc. at the cost of being connected to a wifi).
    – Smartphones are handy for people who don’t have plans ahead of time (mostly with the younger generation). If you go for dinner with friends and decide for movie, the only way is to use a smartphone and look up the options on the fly:) (Yelp, google maps, fandango for booking movie tickets)
    – Smartphone is more useful for people who travel or are on roads for most of the time.
One more good use, is syncing data to cloud. Photos, Videos, tutorials, documents now can be stored in the cloud and available whenever required. Sharing of photos/videos is the easiest I find (Bump is the best)
    – Having an expectation set for having the info on fingertips might not be good, but I guess thats where the road is taking us.
-Kids can learn quickly and easily with the attractive apps while having fun at the same time of using a smartphone/iPad.
We can for sure live without these electronic gadgets, its just way of living a easing/smoothing life! πŸ˜‰

Let’s phrase this as “Change for a better”
