In a year most of us usually take at least 2/3 long trips in car. How much ever we plan there are at least 3 to 4 hours when kids are up and they have the same question ,” Are we there yet ? Or How long is it going to take?”
Some of the games we play( avoiding iPad,iPhones or gadgets) are 20 questions, Atlas, listening to audio tapes( with chapter books) and narrating stories .
Just wondering what are the activities you do in the car with your kids?

I Spy with my little eye, Memory game, Spellings, Maths Q&A
Number games – say bus or something silly for odd/ even, multiples of 5. Clap when you see reoccurring numbers/ alphabet in number plates, Song making, antakshari, talking about what we did this time last year , counting cousins we don’t meet often( leads to phone call sometimes- good way to catch up )
Great article Madhavi.
1. Kids usually take their books to read during long drive.
2. Memory games (wild/domestic/sea animals, fruits, veggies, mithai – anything we come up with).
3. Number games – similar to what Jaina has mentioned, starts with simple odd/even, then add a twist to it by doing for different pairs of numbers with one action for each number etc.
4. Letter games – spellings, rhyming words, take turns to speak different words that start with each letter,
5. Name, Place, Animal, thing game – verbal version of the paper game that we used to play in school.
6. Mental Maths – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, tables
7. Kids sing their songs from schools or some hindi that they know off
8. The why game, I spy game
Not to mention:- IPAD
We play Twist the Tune. Manish and Miloni have been lately trying to make their own song.
When kids were younger – used to play “I Spy” (Rushabh’s favourite), “Fish and Buzz” and “Name, Place, Animal, Thing”. Then used to play Antakshari.
We never let kids read while car was in motion.
