Desi Adda – Indian traditional games in Pune

Desi Adda games

The Pune Kutchi Yuva Mandal recently organized a Desi Adda picnic at a park here. The idea was to play organized indian traditional games like Kabaddi, Kho Kho, Langdi, Lagori, Sack Race. They divided the entire group who attended into 4 groups (with equal number of kids, females, males). The names of the groups were unique like Dhinchak Dhagas, Powerful Paadas, etc. As printing is cheap in India, they got banners made for each group and flags too. So it became a real competition.

Each game had some people from each team playing. So not everyone played all games. But most of us got to play 2-3 games. It was great fun to play Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, etc. Each team accumulated points as they won games. And in the end they gave prizes to the winning team members and the runners-up.

The participants were enthusiastic but at the same time they listened nicely to the referees and there was not a lot of arguing or contesting the decisions. The females showed equal enthusiasm. Folks fell down during the games but they carried on bravely.

Overall playing Indian traditional games was lot of fun. I hope KV can organize something similar.

Here are photos from that Desi Adda picnic.
