I find Baskin Robbins ridiculously expensive!! The prices on the menu + VAT + Waffle cone + extra topping = not worth the amount of money. The ice cream flavour you choose, you don’t know if it belongs to regular, classic or premium category. And we too don’t ask while choosing the flavour that how much will it cost for the kiddie, medium and jumbo scoop. So when we pay the final amount, I have every time felt, it was not worth it.
I am sure you all must have experienced it somewhere, sometimes!! Pls share your thoughts and experiences, whichever part of the world you belong to!! BTW this episode was based in Mumbai 🙂

Kids ate at Haagen Dazs last week and it was close to 225 Rs or so for one cone of icecream. In general mumbai is getting expensive for everything 🙂
Last year (2010) when I was in Mumbai, my friends took us out for dinner at a place not too far from home in Powai. It was an Italian restaurant, with very average food by US standards. I was shocked when the tab was over 9K for 6 people. After that I completely stopped thinking/comparing prices….Mumbai is way more expensive for food that Bay Area….
Thankfully my favorite wada pav in Pune costs only 10Rs. 🙂
I have discovered some local mom & pop shops to be making creative healthier flavours & cheaper, compare to mildly flavoured multi-national brands.
US Brands in India and restaurants in general are very expensive.
Levis Denims start from Rs 4000 thats $80.
We have paid 5k plus price for 4-5 people at even average Punjabi restaurants with just good ambience.
Discos and Lounges have a cover of Rs2000 plus per person and then cost of drinks!!!
We just got back from Cancun and everything was priced in Dollars…..wading shoes were freaking $30. Walmart carries it for $6-7. Cost of ice creams, bottle water was all dollar amount equivalent.
But surprising thing is even if restaurants are that expensive in India they are always full!!!
Everyone is wearing a designer label be it rich or middle class. People are traveling abroad every summer. Housing in Mumbai is more expensive than Bay Area!!!
