Re-learning India

Now that we are back in India we need to re-learn some of the things that we knew about India before we moved to USA for education and employment.

1) For example the closet space here in India is not as big as in USA. Plus there is not as much hangar space as well. So need to learn to live with a smaller wardrobe.
2) Clothes get washed here everyday as opposed to weekly laundry in USA. So typically only a few clothes are needed anyways. No need to have lot of backup. 🙂
3) Need to get used to the sight of watchmen and drivers sitting around and doing mostly nothing the whole day. Just a chair for company. 🙁
4) In general storage space is a problem in India. So out goes all the things which are not really needed.
5) SMS is big here. Not so much email or voicemail. I have also started to use SMS to interact.
6) Lot of construction going on in India including new Malls, etc. But the thing missing is the FINISHING. Shoddy finishing.

More updates to come. 🙂

Door bell starts ringing at 5.30 am in the morning….milkman to be the first person to be seen. Line conitunes…..doodhwala, chapawalla, dhobi………etc, etc

  9. Folks have found provision for early morning doodhwala.. leave Bag outside & pick up milk bags whenever u wake up. Even for collecting milk from traditional milkwala, folks have made small cabinet at places to leave vessel in….
Paperwala also leaves paper outside the door without ringing bell..so morning starts whenever we want it to..

    – Warming water for bathing on Gas when light is not there.
