Here  are  some  interesting  facts about Pune (Poona), which even most of the. Pune residents are not aware of.

1.  Pune has the impeccable record of the highest growth over a span of 20 Years.

04 Pune has the highest number of software companies in India -212, followed  by Bangalore – 208, Hyderabad – 97.  Hence it’s called the Silicon Valley of Maharashtra.

05.Pune has 21 engineering colleges, which is the highest in the world in a given city.
Pune University has 57 Engineering colleges affiliated to it, which is the highest in the world.

06.Pune  is the only city in the world to have a commercial and defence Airport operating from the same strip.

07.Pune  has highest number of public sector and government Organisations in India.

08.Pune university has the highest number of students going abroad for higher studies taking the first place from IIT-Kanpur.

    – On an average a Puneite is 7 ft tall by highschool years. People are known to grow even in their twenties.

    – However, as they close at 11pm no one knows where they are
    03 Pune has the highest number of cigarette smokers in India.
    – Fighting fire with fire is the long held belief. People smoke to beat traffic pollution
    04 Pune has the highest number of software companies in India -212, followed by Bangalore – 208, Hyderabad – 97. Hence it’s called the Silicon Valley of Maharashtra.
    – The best known are: Sakharam Tech and Vithoba Info Systems

    – I like the word Telugite. sounds like a type of rock. well, Pune rocks.

    – Pune police also has the reputation of being the second best police in Pune 🙂

    – also has the highest density of dense drivers
    12.Pune has the highest number of 2-wheelers in the world.
    – also the highest numbers of 3 wheelers. thanks to the rate of 2 wheeler accidents. specifically, accidents due to smoking while riding two wheelers in dense traffic (refer #03)
    13.Pune is considered the fashion capital of east comparable to Paris.
    – the lesser known fact: due to this reputation of Pune Aamir Khan spent a few weeks here in preparation of his role in Rangeela. boy, was he inspired!
    14.Pune has produced the maximum international sportsmen in India for all sports next to Mumbai & Delhi.
    – The number exploded upon introduction of Kabaddi to Asian games in 1990. Upon introduction of Kho Kho to Asian games Pune is sure to become the sports capital of the Indian subcontinent. Btw, the numbers are a bit skewed as according to IOC each Kalmadi is counted as 100 sportsmen
    15.Pune has produced the maximum number of scientists considered for many high profile Prize nominations.
    – “Considered” is the key word.

    – Yes. Pune also has the best school in Asia that is ranked 2nd in India 😉
