A day after Dahisar resident Deepti Chauhan committed suicide allegedly because her in-laws cast aspersions on her character, an HDFC Bank manager killed herself after being mentally and physically harassed by her husband and his parents for dowry.
Komal Chheda, 31, hanged herself from the ceiling of her fourth floor apartment in Matunga’s Hindu colony around 6.15pm on Sunday. She was taken to a private hospital, but declared dead before admission.
A case under various sections of the Dowry Act has been registered against Komal’s husband, Ruchir, 31, her father-in-law, Mahendra Chheda, and mother-in-law, Neeru. Ruchir and his mother were arrested on Monday and remanded in police custody for three days by the Kurla Metropolitan Magistrate’s court, said Sanjay Baviskar, DCP (zone IV).
Komal, a post-graduate, was working as wealth manager with HDFC Bank for five years. She was earning a salary and perks totalling Rs15 lakh per annum. Komal and Ruchir had a love marriage in 2008. In his complaint, Komal’s father, Dr Navinchandra Dedhia, 62, said Komal’s ordeal started immediately after marriage. Her bankrupt husband and parents-in-law kept demanding money from Komal to repay their loan. “They did not allow her to employ a maid. Her father-in-law took the money after selling her Swift,” alleged Dedhia.
“Komal even gave Rs2 lakh to Ruchir’s younger brother, Kavil, for higher studies in the US.” The police are awaiting the post-mortem report from Sion hospital.
Unfortunately we happen to know this family very closely. Neeru Ben Chedda is an education counsellor. I would take this story with a pinch of salt not justifying anyone but why would an educated and an independent girl succumb to all the torture mentioned…..doesnot make any snense also girls father is a Doctor.
Truth noone can know
Sad indeed. Here is the news article:

Thanks for link Deepa. A truly path breaking decision to convert the prayer to a counselling session.
I agree with Sneha. We know the family very well. Humble request to all – Please do not propagate this on Facebook. False allegations are being made here and it would be unwise and unfair to malign someone without understanding or knowing the situation. While this is definitely sad and we hope Komal’s soul rests in peace, it is an extremely difficult time for both the families and we need to be sensitive and extremely cautious before making any remarks or ‘liking’ facebook links.
very sad.komal was nice friend since school days.
Sad indeed 🙁 May her soul rest in peace.
And gives courage to others to speak up instead of being quiet and under going the suffering.
Found a blog article describing her –

Where was Komal’s father when she actually neeed him. Why was he not there to counsel her? He was a Doctor damn it. Are we saying that for 2-3 years if all that was going on, he had never sensed it.
Something is wrong somewhere. Parents shall know of their child’s unhappiness the minute they see their face. Thats very natural.
Whether she was abused or not, why was she not helped when she needed it.
Based on these photos they look very happy together. There must be some other explanation.
