Most of the folks often go to Fresh Choice or Sweet Tomatoes to indulge on the fresh veggies. But inside the home, I am not sure how many of us eat raw veggies. Personally I think we eat some amount of raw veggies. How about you ? What all vegetables do you eat raw when you are at home. My raw veggie list is not that big, but looking to add some more. And hopefully inspires those who don’t eat raw veggies at home at all.
So cucumbers, beet root, carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, spring onions, avocados are the most common vegetables in our home. Broccoli, cabbage, Cauliflower, Radish, zucchini, onions sometimes will be eaten as well.
Looking forward to growing the raw veggie list …
Red Bell Pepper, TJ’s ready to eat shelled soyabeans.
I am a big raw vegetable fan. And with my roti-sabji or rice-dal, I typcially eat one or more of the following:
cucumber, carrorts, tomatoes, spinach, cabbage (great substitute for chips 🙂 ), onions, avocado, radish, corn.
Broccoli and beet roots rarely.
Do people really eat raw cauliflower ? I would like to know who. 🙂
Celery, zucchini,jicama, turnip(kohlrabi)
Spinach & long beans too
One Gala on a roll today. We were expecting the other Gala to be on a roll on KV, but this Gala will do as well. 🙂
Prashant,
Fresh Cauliflower(raw) tastes yummy :), try it. And I am actually surprised (knowing your cravings for biscuits, khari, toast etc) to know that you like eating raw vegetables.
@Bhavini, In general there are very very few things in food world that I dont like. :-). No connection between raw veggies and breakfast stuff although I do eat toasted tomato cheese sandwich for breakfast sometimes.
In addition to list given by Prashant – Celery, Corn, Peas, Bell pepper, basil, parsely, beetroot.
Big cauliflower fan here. By the time I’m done cutting the cauliflower for cooking, quantity is reduced by half ;).
Sorry to chip in so late and throw a damper to this, however there is a naturopathic theory out there that says not to mix raw and cooked food.We follow that. Even ayurvedic docs say that.
If we do raw then the entire meal is raw i.e. salads, raw juice and fruits. We try to avoid mixing food. It is not supposed to be healthy.
I will try to post the article if I can find it.
i was on a raw veggie diet for 3 months (8 years ago) and it did wonders to my health and skin. Literally raw veggies for lunch and dinner ( milk and fruits rest of the day)- even cauliflower and tindoli ;). I stopped as it was a lot of chewing time. We still eat lots of raw salad.
