Sat Dinner:

Sun Lunch:
Sun Dinner:
Mon Bfast:
Mon Lunch:
I suggest for Sat Lunch – Everyone bring their own or arrange for their own food.
For Mon Lunch we can stop by at some indian restaurant on the way back.
Sat Dinner Options: Catered Food?? (Roti , Sabji or Pav Bhaji or something else?)
Sun Lunch Options: Sandwich, Thepala ??
Sun Dinner Options: Tacos, ?? Thepala ??
More suggestions welcome.
Falafel with Falafel balls catered.
Orowheat english muffins for breakfast.
We can have Bhel puri and ragda pattice. Deep’s frozen aloo tikes are great pattice.
we can have burger using the frozen patties or order pattice outside. Can have Vada pav or dabeli as well
1.Bhel Puri for lunch might work. Adding Papdi Chaat using canned Garbanzo beans and Puris in the menu will make it filling I guess.
If the camping site has electricity then heating burger pattice will be easier unless we plan to use the barbeque grills there, else heating those pattice on regular camping stove for so many people may take longer.
oof.. after calling campsite multiple times, finally got somebody on the other hand.
– Site has 1 plug point. 🙂
With extension strip could use 2-3 electrical appliance at a time.
– Just gathered some estimate based on current head count.
Falafel etc (Fremont)-400ball-180$+tax- may give some discount.
Falafel Drivein (SJ) – 400 ball – 25cent each
– For Pav Bhaji, have left message with Kids castle but have not heard back from them yet. Only time we ate PB there, it was yummy but very oily. Hopefully they have option to prepare it with less oil.
– For items suggested above if you could give reco of vendor or get pricing from them.
– Any new place for theplas?
– As side with Chat or something else, we could order Lemon/tamrind rice
– More suggestions ??
In San Louis Obispo there is this place called Pita Pit. We can explore the idea of catering from there.
Check it out

My two cents:
If we are considering catering as an option then food should be catered froma source close to the campsite.
Our experience with Ragda Pattice in 2008 was not that great where in Aloo Tikkis were catered previous day, refrigerated at home and then brought to the campsite. Food had gone stale in the heat and was not fun.
I agree with Sneha, if catering we should look into catering from source closer to San Luis Obispo. Previous day catered food needs to be refrigerated and needs special care for saturday. So in my opinion falafel catering or tikki catering locally should be ruled out. Sneha, can you call up this place for rate for falafel balls?
i can check with my cooking lady as her charges for theplas. generally they are 2 for a $. i will check and confirm. We can have ragdda pattice /falafel on sat nite that way avoid the issue it getting staled. i agree keeping it overnite is not a good idea. bhel/papdi chaat for lunch sounds good.
My 2 cents…
Since we are already planning to cater food from outside, why not order Pizza’s for lunch/dinner that way no cooking/preparation hazel at all. There is Pizza .Hut just 17 miles away from the campsite.
Also there are couple of Indian restaurants with in 15 miles of campsite. Shalimar Restaurant – 13 miles, Taj Mahal Restaurant – 14 miles. We can call them up and find out their pricing. We can either get one Sabzi or veg pulao from their and rest can be carried along with us from here.
Bhel and Papdi chaat sounds very interesting.
My 2 cents
Pizza option looks good. we can have pizza on lunch. Bhel and papdi chaat will be at dinner time. Since there are Indian restaurants close by probably they can deliver to us.
Agree with Nitul’s idea.
Smores with Vegan Marshmallows, anyone???
Sneha is already going to find out for falafel.
Nitul, Can you find out from Indian restaurants and if they can make jain food as well.
Mita, Please find out for Pizza hut 🙂
Minati, Vegan Marshmallows sounds good, post the details about where to get them from 🙂
Also note food will have to be picked up on the way to campsite(since maps shows one way time to falafel place is 45 mins or so and assuming all the other places you folks mentioning are around there) or delivered, so please check about delivery charges to the campsite as well.
http://www.sweetandsara.com/locations.php – all the locations listed – includes Whole foods Cupertino, Los Altos and SF Potrero Hill. Let me know if you want me to pick it up….. We will need Chocolate, Graham crackers and the wooden skewers to make smores!
let me know how the distribution of getting things work – i would be glad to help too :)all the food options sound yummy… looking fwd to smores 🙂
Kids Castle chef Sneha Ben (510-456-5104) called back. She does her own catering as well. She stays at Decoto & Fremont. I had asked her for Bhaji for 50 ppl. Was thinking we could buy our own bun bread. She would charge $5/person for just Bhaji. wont be able to prepare Jain Bhaji. She said she could start preparing at 5.30am and have it ready for pick at 7.30am.
She makes methi/mix vegg thepla, dhebra starting at 70cents each.
I know one lady in san jose near Madhavis house she carges 50 cents for theplas . i have eaten her theplas at Madhavis place they are good. She also makes aloo paratha .
While I am driving to camp site I can pick up the food (falafel/Pizza/ Indian) on Saturday.
For theplas, Kinnariben (408.530.9260) in Sunnyvale – 50 cents per thepla. Decent taste, have always been soft for smaller quantities that we have tried.
