Amisha and I took part in the Dream Run (6KM) section of the Mumbai Marathon yesterday. We were part of the KVO Seva Samaj group which had a 150 people strong contingent. KVO had the theme of promoting preservation of the Panch Mahabhut (5 elements) which make up life. They had five people dressed up as Earth, Wind, Fire, Water and Space and then had given all participants colored balloons and duppatas per element.
Multiple NGO’s had taken part in the dream run promoting some cause or the other.
There were some nice characters who had come out to run too :-).
We ran from Azad Maidan to VT towards Churchgate station. As we were running we could see the half-marathoners coming back and every once in a while when we passed a senior citizen or folks with disabilities everybody would cheer for them. From Churchgate the route went towards Trident and then a u-turn on Marine Drive.
There were live bands singing, folks all along the route cheering and encouraging folks to run and also people from various institutions/NGOs holding their banners etc.
From Marine Drive we went over the Princess Street bridge. Upon reaching the bridge one could see the throngs of people coming up from behind.
We finished the 6KM partly walking partly running in about 55 minutes and it was a great way for us to celebrate our 12th together.
Overall the experience was humbling as well as highly motivating.
Great article Samir. Thanks for posting. Good pictures too. I am glad you could attend this Marathon having missed the Mulund marathon due to Elephanta Caves visit. One of these Januarys hopefully I can participate in the famous Mumbai marathon too !!!
Mulund Marathon (arranged by Mulund KVO Yuva Vibhag) had around 1000 participants and it was open to non kutchi families also.
After the marathon, they had nice breakfast – jalebi, gathiya etc.
Happy 12th Samir-Amisha…
Hopefully we could do Mulund Marathon together with kids this dec like our hike to Yogi hills.
