Camping 2010

Hi Folks

Must come as a surprise to many of you by seeing a camping email in November itself. But in order to get good sites and the dates we want, we need to plan and book early. Also with parks crisis in california, etc camping at good parks is getting filled up fast.

So need your input on couple of things:
a) Venue
The venue leader is Big Trees Calaveras State Park in Arnold, CA (about 3 hours from here).
http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=551
This park satisfies various criteria like being away from ocean (we have been close to ocean for last 3 times :-)), having activities within the park itself, a river within 5 mins, etc. Yelp has good reviews too on this park and plus recommendations from Palvi Kudwa and myself too. 🙂 (I went there this year).

Other option for venue is Samuel Taylor State Park near San Francisco.

b) Date
This year, if you all agree we can try out something different. We can start on May 29 (Sat) morning (Memorial Day long weekend) and stay overnight for Sat night and Sun night. Thus we break the routine of going there Friday night. And also we can stay longer duration at the camp. We return on Monday afternoon.

There are still individual sites available for the long weekend. The group sites are unfortunately booked already for the long weekend. Anyway the group sites were isolated from the main park and were in a different section of the park. We liked the individual sites better since they provided access to many other things.

If we cannot agree on the Memorial Day Long Weekend then the next date would be our usual second or third weekend of June. Let me know your thoughts on the date.

Ponder over this over the weekend and give feedback before early next week. Hopefully if all are in agreement we can book sites by next week.

  1. I like the idea of Starting on Saturday morning with good Friday night sleep… since this time the campgrounds are 3hrs away getting proper rest would be great.

Or on the other side Prashant how about 3 nights 🙂

  2. Well Memorial day weekend sounds great. That way we can pitch our tents for 3 nights as 2 nights seems not enough. and secondly if people are planning a trip to India in june, then they will not miss out on the fun. We are all thumbs up for Memorial day weekend and 3 nights of camping.

  3. Memorial day @ Big Trees Calaveras State Park sounds good.

  4. Once again good chance to meet KV group

  5. We are ok with any dates.

  6. Sunday, May 30th (Memorial Day weekend) kids will have the final test for JCNC.

  7. Thanks for the update Kalpana. I think due to the Pathshala update, the Memorial day Camping is not possible.

Hence we will try for June 12 or June 19 weekend. Let me know if the school going families have any preference for either one of the dates.

We will try to book the group sites if possible.

  8. How abt July long weekend?

  9. We are ok for 3 nights and any dates are ok with us.

We also need to find out for sure if we are going to have pathshala during the long weekend.

  10. How about July long weekend? We are fine with any dates. Would prefer a place that is warm at nights 🙂

  11. We are fine with any dates….

  12. I am surprised the Pathshala is not considering days off for long weekend. Labor Day was working and Memorial day is working too. I will try to find out if they are really going to do anything substantial since many kids will be missing during these holidays anyway.

  13. July 4 is not possible since some folks are going to India. So the next best date is June 11/12/13. Will keep you updated. The reservation for month of June opens up on Dec 1 and hence will need to be online early morning on dec 1 to reserve the group sites.

  14. I send an email to Prerna’s pathshala teacher and he said that they will be having a make-up test for the kids who miss class due to the long weekend or they might just have the test before the long weekend.

  15. Your Comment: I called Sangitaben, Jainisha’s teacher, she can have test on 16th instead 30th. So they can have make-up test.

  16. We are fine with any dates.

  17. Cool Mita and Kalpana. I will check with the remaining pathshala parents to get their approval too. If all parents are in agreement over letting their kids take make up test then we can still target for Memorial day weekend camping.

  18. I am fine ….

  19. I am fine with any dates……..

  20. We are fine with any dates.

  21. OK. Since no one has raised any objection for Memorial Day Camping we will go ahead with booking the sites. Since we have been breaking records w.r.t attendance at various events, we expect this one to be a record breaker too.

So will book for the capacity of 100 people (approx 14 sites so that 28 cars can be accomodated).

3 sites for 3 nights (so 24 people will be able to stay for 3 nights).
    11 sites for 2 nights

  22. Save the Date: May 29, May 30 2010 (2 nights). 12 sites have been booked.

Thanks to Dimple, Jayesh, Bhavini, Nitul, Pinank for help with booking.

  23. We’ll look forward to fun-filled KV Camping !!!
