  1. Great post Poonam. Hope to get some yummy replies.

  2. I typically make Gugara and Nan Khatai for diwali. And then make Wheat shera on Kali chaudas and some other fresh sweet on Diwali day.

  3. Yup miss all those yummy treats that are made during diwali. I compensate by making one and only Ghugra’s 🙂

  4. I make Khajurpak- Sugarless
Cut dates into small pieces. Put one spoon ghee in a pan and then sauté dates keep on the gas till the dates become soft and add half cup of heavy whipping cream and what ever nuts u want to add mix it all and keep heating till the ghee starts separating.
Grind marie biscuit or graham biscuit or cashew and make in a powder form
Put this powder on a plate , take some mixture of dates while it is hot and roll on to this powder.
Put the rolls in the freeze for 2 hrs . remove those rolls from freeze and start slicing in to small pieces.

  5. What about the rest of KV? I thought this post is perfect time to put down what you like during Diwali.

  6. For me Diwali = Ghugras + Chakri. :-). Love Ghugras. Although we used to call them “Sanjori” at home. That could be a maharashtrian term.

These 2 items define Diwali for me. 🙂

  7. This Diwali I made Chakli, Chevodo and Khajurpak. Yum—

  8. I guess its not possible to get “Satha” anywhere in the bay area right? “Satha” has become my latest mithai fascination replacing Kaju Katri.

  9. They are available in BAPS 🙂
They have some other traditional mithai as Gundar Pak, Kopar Pak, Adadiya etc. We have not tried any of these yet. I got Chocolate Burfi & Chickoo Burfi. Both are okay okay.
BAPS also having Buy 2 Get 1 free for Mathiya/Fafadaa.
It was pleasing to look at 3 freezer full of colorfull Mithai.:-)

  10. BAPS, here I come. :-).

Stay tuned to hear about the quality of the Saathas.

  11. I tasted the sataas from BAPS. they are good, this if you like the mithai to be less sweet. they are not as sweet as the ones you get in india.

  12. Hi ,

I made chakri, puri and chevdo and kaju almond and pista sweet this year…

  13. Thanks to Kalpa, I got to taste some BAPS Satta from her.

They are on less sweet side. I prefer a little bit more sweet just like India. So my search continues. 🙂

Someone mentioned that Saata is similar to an American item. Can we have that article please? 🙂

  14. Saata similar to donuts??

  15. Yup. 🙂
