A list of Weekday Sabji/Saag/Shaak that Kutchis make at home.

Has your family ever pondered in evening “What Shaak to make today?”. Many a times we miss the obvious. In an effort to help the food-makers make the decision on those rare days when they are not certain, here is a post to consolidate the list of shaaks that kutchis usually make at home.

This is a list of the shaaks made routinely and NOT a list of shaaks made for special purposes (like guests, etc). So I am assuming Shaaks like “Navratan Korma, Shahi Paneer, etc” Wont figure on this list since no-one really makes those during normal week-days.

Also I am not sure which term do most people use at home “Saag”, “Shaak” or “Sabji”. Hence I put all 3 in the title.

I will compile an alphabetically sorted list based on the comments. Here are some to start you off with:

Aloo-Pyaas Shaak (Onions and Potatoes with gravy)
Aloo Shaak (Dry)
Aloo-Palak
Aloo-Gobi
Besan Shaak (made with Besan and onions)

  20. Prashant,

While you are compiling the list of shaaks, some of them are new others and hence might not have the receipe for it. If you can think of a way for people to add their receipes to it. Also putting name of people against a sabji which is uncommon will help, so that we know whom to call if we want to try something different.

  21. Yes, that was the plan. To put the name of 1-2 people who know that shaak besides it. We will request those folks then to write a article describing the recipe and we will have a link to that recipe from this post.

Everyone rejoice. We are about to introduce some new dishes in your daily life. 🙂
