May 3 was a cloudy day. As I drove towards Uvas Canyon, I started to wonder how many people will show up for the Uvas Canyon Hike since there was some drizzle everywhere in the bay area. Surely more than half will get discouraged and not show up. Only if the weather was a bit better more KVites would be able to enjoy this marvelous hike (It was my second hike to Uvas Canyon in less than 20 days). Anyway we were restricted by the number of available Sundays and hence taking into account all risks we decided to go ahead with the hike on Sunday even though we were aware of the weather.
I reached there at 9am and Bhavesh Gosar’s family was the only one there. At least I am not alone I thought :-). On the way to the Uvas Canyon the weather seemed nice. However arriving in the park itself we found that there was a constant mini drizzle going on. Slowly one by one the cars started arriving. And my hopes rose that maybe not as many people backed out. By the time all cars arrived we were at a strength of 49. WOW.

Start of hike
The KV Enthu for Hiking be it rain or shine has to be admired. In fact some people liked the drizzle and said it was perfect for such kind of a waterfall hike.
We started at 9.45 am (well past our time of 9am but that is forgivable due to distance/weather considerations).

Granuja Falls
The first waterfall is quite nearby (0.2 miles) and it gave a flavor of what was coming ahead. We were the only ones in the park (just like Portola State park). Since there was so many of us, we had to go down to the falls in small groups. π

Walking along stream
We started walking along the stream. Since there were so many trees, we did not feel the drizzle now. Within the first 0.7 miles there are many places to go close to the water and there are many small falls. We went close to a few falls and made the kids cross the stream just for fun.

Going close to a fall
The Kids Loved it and I think they are all going to be great hikers when they grow up. None of the kids complained. We continued walking till we reached Upper Falls. We made the kids go close to the falls by helping them on the rocks. This is the last falls before the path becomes a bit steep.

At the Upper Falls
Next time around the adults should try to hike along the stream while some others can take care of the kids along the normal route.

A bit steep path
The next 0.5 miles was a bit steep. Kudos to all those who brought strollers and did hard work of lifting them. Hats off to Kaushal and Kalpana who both carried one kid each and slowly and steadily conquered this steep patch.

Snack break
The rest of the path then became narrow and we had to walk in one line. It was really beautiful with leaves and trees looking so green. We crossed a few bridges and took a quick break for snacks. We looked like a long train (of people) since the path was narrow.

L shaped tree
Then we came to the L shaped tree. Folks took some photos. After this tree the path widens. And we could walk side by side.
We were back where we started at about 12.15. So it took 2 1/2 hours for 3.2 mile hike. Not bad. Folks had pre-decided to go for lunch at DeeDee’s in Santa Clara. Almost the whole group went there. WE occupied the whole restaurant. It was a good meal with Aam-Ras.

Lunch at Deedees
All in all it was a day very well spent with great friends, awesome nature, and beautiful falls.ΓΒ On the way back Kairavi told me in car “Daddy, I really really really love hiking”. That made my Day. π
The weather turned out to be no match for KV Spirit.ΓΒ I Salute the KV Spirit of Hiking and May the Hiking Fever Continue to Grow. I hope no one got sick due to the weather.

Kudos to KV Hikers!! (KVikers)
Wow nice description/ essay !! We are getting Bhumi into writing practice and she writes 10-12 sentences in English about all the outings we are doing right now. Her grandma reminded that she should practice writing Hindi too !! π And now 5 sentences in Hindi has been added to her homework. May be I should send her journal she maintains, to you Prashant for corrections π
Were you always this good at writing??
I wanted to post few articles since we came here but have been feeling lazy, may be I will get inspired and put them down in few days π
It was a great hike like all other KV hikes.
Thanks Prashant for organizing it and motivating KVites by posting pictures and excellent narration of the experience each time.
Great spirit and pics of KV hikers! Wouldn’t want to miss it next time.
Nice pics and must say KV hiker’s club is becoming stronger :).
Go KV hikers! Enjoyed seeing the pics.
Excellent photos and thank you all for helping us out during the hike. It was an amazing experience and we are waiting on the next hike.
Amisha – how about Bhumi sharing her KV events journal on KV. In addition all our comments on a event, it would be delight to read hers as well.
Definitely. But we have given her our inputs to start with and after she was done writing we have corrected them. So it won’t be her original writing π
I told her about how nice Prashant Uncle had written the essay on the Hike. And also Samir read it to her π
