There used to be so many nice Hindi serials in the 80s and 90s. Unlike right now where there is too much of “Saas-Bahu” going on in the Hindi TV network. (Or maybe I am just getting too old to enjoy recent serials).
This post created to capture some of the Old Hindi serials, to discuss them and to post links to some glimpses of them if available on the internet.
Malgudi Days was a cute serial
Anyone remember the kids serial “Ek Do Teen Char”. Those 4 kids used to play detective and solve mysteries. THe desi version of “Famous Five”.
I used to love this serial (1984/85)
Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi Of course. Full episodes are now available on youtube courtesy Shemaroo.

rajshri.com – awesome site for watching Malgudi Days, Kachi Dhoop and lots of other serials. Our recent favorite has been Sarabhai.
byomkesh bakshi and hum paanch used to be my favorites…
Prashant You can Hum Paanch on Rajshri.com. They have almost all episodes there.
ALso Khandan by Girish Karnad was one of my favorites. And the famous Rajni.
Sneha I think you mean Paras.
Somehow Hum Paanch did not appeal to me that much.
Nukkad was one of my favorite serial being a kid.
Do you guys remember Karamchand? I enjoyed that serial lot.
Mahabharat…..One of my favorite serial… I distinctly remember how the roads and trains/buses used to be deserted when Mahabharat was on….
B.R. Chopra was only given 52 episodes to show this epic and these days the Saas/bahu thingy gets unlimited episodes…What a pity…
Anyway enjoy this episode # 142…

Chunauti…first tv serial on the college campus life.
Fauji…Shahrukh’s first tv serial.
Aavo Mari Saathe….used to enjoy comedy gujarati serial.
Some of my desi fav –
Chunauti and Subah, Ek Shunya Shunya, Rajni amongst some others mentioned above
And my non-desi fav
Spiderman – Even though it was just 15 min long, looked forward to viewing it every Sunday evening before the feature film presentation
Star Trek – starring William Shatner
Giant Robot – think it used to come on Tuesdays
Chanakya and Discovery Of India (Roshan Sheth) were also among the favorites.
We used to watch few Marathi serials but can’t remember the names.
Wah Janaab – One of Shekhar Suman’s first entry into TV.
I am surprised no one shouted in joy at the above link of full length “Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi” on youtube.
I am very very excited to find “Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi”. YAY !!!
Also will catch up on few episodes of Kacchi Dhoop just for old times sake.
Apart from the bunch mentioned above I enjoyed Ados Pados, Mr Yogi, Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne. Not sure if one can find these online. Marathi serials used to be pretty good as well e.g. 100, Swami, PL Deshpande’s Katha Kathan (a unique program)etc.
Not to mention “Kakaji Kahin”. Why dont they make such serials anymore.
Will the current Indian kids (who are in India) ever have such memories of serials which are running currently. Surely no one will say after 20 years what a serial “Saas bhi Kabhi Bahu thi” was.
I enjoyed Hum Log, Zaban Sambhalke, Surabhi.
Anyone remember Alok-nath’s first serial? was the first one based on indo-pak partition.
“Aisa Bhi Hota Hai” and “Buniyad”
“Nukkad” – teacher ji and all those characters (can’t even remember the names)
Wow – A long list of old serials. How about Waghle ki duniya, Vikram aur Betal, Jungle book cartoon
Amisha, to know what the nukkad stars are doing now, please read:

BhaveshG…..That was Buniyad….
Rangoli and Showtime on Sundays were good too. Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan was fun too…
I do not remember the names of the character or the serial, but the storyline was somethng like a famous dancer challenges a person to a competioen, wherein if she wins, he will her servant for life and vice versa if he wins. It was an eleven or an eighteen episode serial.
I think the name was “Aprajita”
To add to this evergreen list; Zabaan sambhaal ke, Tenali Rama, Guniram.
I remember apart from these there were also serials like Mr & MRS, Dadaji Ka Bioscope ,Agent Vinod, Dada Dadi Ki Kahani,Mr.Yogi,Street Hawk,Kathasagar,Amaravati ke kathayen, and many more i just cant remember now. These were all unique serials diffrent from one another. Not like all those boring saas bahu serials thet are being shown today.Even though those days we had only one channel DD the serials were entertaining
Who is this new imposter using my name in the previous comment…?? Hardy boys please find out this imposter and bring before the KV court.
Hardy boys would be the Haria boys this time Since both Nitul and Lankesh are present. 🙂
Unfortunately Haria boyz dont eat carrots (think Karamchand). Hence investigation will be a bit slower.
Anyone remember the name of the serial with Chimanrao and Gundyabhau.
Apu Ghar, Commander, Hum Log , Filmi Chakkar
Recent ones our kids should probably remember after say 15 yrs :
Baa Bahu aur baby , Khicdi , Sarabhai vs Sarabhai , Karishma Ka Karishma
Prashant or can any one of you recall Ashok kumar’s tv serials?
I remember only ‘Humlog’, ‘Dada dadi ki kahaniya’ , ‘Bahadursha Zafar’ and ‘Bhim Bhavani’.
If any one can check from Ashokkumar’s biography books published and available back home in India?
I need this information as I am writting about ‘Dada’s life story and due credit will also be given to the person in the book.
Is HUM LOG episods are available anywhere ?
A nice slideshow from rediff about the actors in Hum Log 25 years later.

Yes..Shrimaan Shrrimati I found very funny serial after yeh jho hei zindagi…
yes… shriman shrimati, yeh jo hai zindagi, karamchand etc were good to. I used to watch chayageet too as a kid.
