Lots of KV members have 2 kids. Wanted to get their suggestions on how to prepare sibling for arrival of new baby.
As most of you know, We are expecting second baby in oct 1st week. Please suggest any books/toys etc which will help Aanya prepare for arrival of new baby. What developmental/behavioral transitions should we watch for? Thanks

Did not do anything special as such to prepare Jash. But involved him in every activity that is centerd around the baby. Let Aanya do certain things as well related to the baby – like choose baby’s clothes, get her diaper etc etc. She will definitely need more attention than the little one.
1. A book “I am a big sister” would be good 🙂
2. If she is more attached to mom currently, then slowly get her more attached to dad – since once the little one arrives mom will be very busy with the little one for first few months and i’ve heard from folks that kids get disturbed.
We did not worry about it too much. In our case, Kairavi was a bit older. She took it well. We kept telling her about the incoming baby and how certain things will change. We kept her involved in various talks about the baby. She was as excited as us.
In a way it was her second such excitement since she went thru it once when Tanvi was born. She loves both her sisters. 🙂
I remember, Bhumi misbehaved a lot in first 10 days. She was very clingy to me and in the beginning I could not pay any attention to her so she was angry about it and showed it in her own way. I think 1st child need more attention than the second one!!
Talk to Aanya and keep telling her that she is going to be the “big” sister. When the little one comes along, do give Aanya special attention. Basically she should not feel being left out.
But doing all this won’t prevent her from being disappointed or even jealous at times. And these are good learning lessions for her too.
