Are you an active vegetable gardener? What do you like to plant the most? What works / does not work for you?
We plant tomatoes every year and they seem to do well. We have tried chilly peppers, but they turn out to be bland. Did not have good luck with cilantro or cantaloupes.
I am not much of active gardener but I like garden ring. I have been having 50-50 luck with my planting attempts. Really bad luck with flower plants 🙁 but decent with fruit & vegg. Somehow vegg. are working out better in container then directly in ground soil for me.
Last year, we planted one tomato in container & one in ground. Container had higher number of tomatoes. I have green tea, rosemary, aloe vera, chili in container. This season, have planted Tomato, Squash, Mint & Corn. Let’s see. For cilantro what parents told me, you have to keep adding dry dhana seeds.
Have tried both flower plants & veggies. They definitely turn out better in pots. That may be because the nutrients from the rich potsoil do not leach out as much in pots as they do in the surrounding ground. Also the soil quality matters.
We had good luck with capsicums, eggplants, tomatoes, mint, & chili. The green tea from Dimple grew real well too. Cilantro grows well in tray-pots & usually needs protection during early sprouting, from the birds.Divide the pot in half & grow it in batches.
Dimple, Smita
Could one of you please plant green tea for me :).
This year I planted Tomato, egg plant and cucumber 4 weeks back but all dried out. except tomato, @ green tea by transferring into other pot some of it dried and lets see with some left. I got one sweet basil plant from Traders Joe. last year I had planted Thai chillie, jalepeno, mint and tomato. One of the plant Jalepeno dried and mint was totally dry but now again new leaves have come by itself and also in thai Chillie.
Has any one seen the advertisement of Topsy Turvy. (I think that is what it is called)
It is about tomatoes planting in a pot. It looked pretty interesting.
Kalpa has not gotten started with plating veggies yet. Previously she has successfully grown, tomatoes (regular and cherry), green chillies, phudina (didn’t have to do much to make this succeed ;)), onions, eggplant (not sure).
Unsuccessful were her attempts to grow cucumber and corn.
I have seen the add. it is called the Topsy Turvy Upside down tomato planter. Bed bath and beyond carries this item. They one for strawberries and for herbs.
Are there any plant starter/bulb/seeds we could share among us?
