When the lights went out

Do you miss those days in India when the lights went out sometimes. We used to then light a candle and wait for light to come back. Sometime use a newspaper to fan ourselves. If it was not too late, then You would step out of the home and spend time with neighbors and friends.

Any interesting stories on when the lights went out.

  2. Yup – “Not really” would be the answer. Have faced “Lights out” in sunnyvale and worst part is can’t even cook/or for that matter chai since have electric gas. Made chai on the camping stove 🙂

  3. I meant in India.

  4. Now with “invertors” becoming popular in India, darkness is becoming increasingly scarce.

  5. Oh, recently in Bombay I visited my old neighbors in Goregaon and were remembering the days when lights went out. The moments light went out, we all used to get down the building and sit and chat have lots o fun 🙂 And fun used to continue even after light come back.
In Mulund also we have good stories/memories of “lights Out” and “lift not working”. More on that when we meet 🙂

  6. Welcome back Amisha. Kutchvalley.com missed you. 🙂

  7. Whenever the lights went out, our phone would start ringing. People on the other end would say – “Hello BSES…Humari light gayi hai”. (Our phone number was their old number).
Tumhari light gayee hai to mai kya karu…(no, i didnt say this to them :-))

  8. That is right. I forgot about the BSES phone calls that you used to come to our home.

One day my smart mouthed friend picked up one such phone call at my home and replied back “Hello. Haan BSES hain. Aap ke ghar par light nahi hai, Toh aap generator kyun nahi lagaa letay”.

  9. Our house is facing the main road, so all the family members would stand in the balcony and try to spot which area light is back first.
