Inspiring and touching moment…

Today I had a pot luck dinner to go to. After reaching there I realized there was more food then the number of people. Thats when I thought of donating the food to the street side homeless people, instead of letting it go waste here. Luckily I had couple of people to accompany me. At 10:30pm in the night myself and 2 of my friends we went driving from Dadar to Bandra and distributed food to the road side homeless people.

It has been just a touching moment doing something I have been wanting to do for a while. Its always hard to step out of our comfort zone and take an initiative. My heart cried out for all those went I saw them begging for extra idlis making me realize there are so many people who go hungry like this night after night. Walking an extra mile to reach out to them has been a very touching moment for me.

I wish this is just a begining and I can do more of such things in days and years to come.

  1. That is a noble thought Parul. A visit to India always shakes up my heart about the many things which we take for granted like food, shelter, clothing.

  2. During recent India trip, couple of times we had good quanity of leftover food. Our maid, bldg jadoo wali, watchment didn’t want to take it. I thought of going down and give it to somebody in across the stree slums. But couldn’t with the thought that what if lot of people gather me and I just have food for few.

It was tricky to answer bunch of Kairavi’s questions like –
Why this boy is not wearing shoes when you insist me to wear them as I step out of house?
Why is he sleeping here (looking at drunk person sleeping in corner on the street)
Why is this girl selling items in the train?

  3. Good initiative Parul. May you continue this noble task in whatever ways you can.

  4. Nice work Parul. Many times I see homeless people standing with sign at the traffic light in Bay Area asking for money. Not sure wheather to give them money or not. Feeding them is a nice way to help.

  5. Great job Parul… i have been thinking since the very first year of my US visit and i have spoken to so many people around if this can be possible here in US.

Since the kind of food we eat and people in US eat is so very different no one had an answer, but if there is a way we can give away left over food please do post it, instead of storing and eating the left over vaasi food its better to give away.
