Recently we went to the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield on our way back from Sacramento. Dimple wanted to go this factory since a long time but something or the other used to come up.
The factory gives free tours. You are all given paper hats to wear as you embark on the tour. As you are guided around the factory in groups, the guide will explain you at various points what is happening down below. They show a brief video clipping at every point for better understanding.
On weekdays you can see the workers and machines in action. On weekends the tour is still open but there are no workers and the machines are idle. However they do have the TV screens and that should be enough for you to understand the process.
They have a sampling bar downstairs where you can taste the 50+ flavors of Jelly Belly. They have very interesting flavors like Jalapeno, Bubblegum, Cotton Candy, Crushed pineapple and lots of others. They give out a sample packet of jelly belly at the end of the tour too. There is a store where you buy different jelly bellys. The whole place is very colorful.
Now I was never a fan of Jelly Belly before. But now having been enlightened on the various flavors and the process of Jelly Belly making, I have no hesitation now to pop a few jelly belly in my mouth if I see some lying around. 🙂
The Jelly Belly Factory Tour should be good fun for kids and adults too. Especially good to take someone coming from India as a tourist attraction. Its not very far from the Bay Area and you can combine it with 1-2 other tourist spots like Sausalito or Sacramento.
