Navratri is Sep 30 – Oct 10.
And there are lot of Dandia-Garba going on in the Bay Area.
SEF Dandia in Santa Clara Convention is on Oct 4 and Oct 11.
Which Dandia should we go for as a group?
Vibha Disco Dandia on Oct 4 and SEF on Oct 11 or
SEF on Oct 4 and CCF on Sep 27?
I prefer the Vibha dandiya on 4th and SEF on 11th.
Someone at work forwarded me a link to http://bayvp.org/RaasGarba2008_Web.jpg
Would likely be the traditional style.
Anyone attended this before (or may be this is a new one this year).
The above mentioned group (Banu Vora and Trupti Chhaya)by Jayesh in the link had sung during our wedding ceremony. They both have very good voices. Banu Vora speaks very good kathiyavadi gujarati in between the songs. They sing nice traditional gujarati songs.
Prefer Vibha or SEF on Oct 11
Sharvari Dixit will be performing at Vibha and I believe from GCA experience that her performance isn’t as good as it used to be. But then SEF has Preetysha & Group from SoCal on 4th & 11th which seems to be new to us. But given the date & location these seems to be better options.
We are ok anywhere group decides to go:)
Leaning towards 11th@SEF at this point. Maybe for 4th.
My Vote would be – SEF on 4th. I think just one is good enough for me this year 😉
Website for Preetysha & Group
Looks like the Majority is towards Oct 11 for SEF till now.
Will join where ever KVO group goes
We’re going to the Pleasanton event on Oct 18th but we’ll join the Kutchi group on any date/place that’s decided.
Ok. Lets decide on Oct 11 for SEF Dandia at Santa Clara Convention Center.
Since buying > 4 tickets brings down the price to 13.50 instead of 15, please organize yourself in groups of 4 or more and buy the tickets yourself.
Let me know if you want help in making a group of > 4.
Hiya young folks,
I read some of your comments out of my desire for feedback re my shows. I am honestly interested in finding out more about your experience with my shows. Tell me, I’d like to improve. Go ahead, find my email at sjsu.edu, and send me a personal response if you prefer that. I can tolerate critical appraisal.
If you happen to come to any of my events, at any time, please do come say hi to me. I love making friends.
Sharvari Dixit
We are honored that the reputed Sharvari Dixit came to our blog and commented on it.
Did not know that you were a SJSU faculty member.
This group loves Dandia as such and usually we all take a season pass to GCA. We have seen you play at GCA and overall we like the music and singing.
A nice addition would be some hindi songs to the mix. And maybe a Sanedo at the end of the Dandia. 🙂
I guess some of the singing restrictions in GCA could be imposed by GCA themselves.
Anyway the next time that we attend a Dandia where you are playing we will surely introduce ourselves.
This year we are planning to skip GCA and try out some other places but we are sure we will return to GCA next year since its cost-effective.
Our best wishes to you for a grand Dandia season.
Kids Castle in Newyark having DJ dandia tomorrow and Sat from 7pm to midnight. Ticket is $6 per person for kids $4 including food (pizza). Can buy ticket Phone # 510-791-2096. We are going tomorrow.
Good info Kalpana. Let me confer with Dimple and get back to you about whether we would be able to join tomorrow at Kids Castle.
We went to Vibha on Sat at Centerville School in Fremont. Sharvari Dixit was playing.
Our overall experience was okay.
When we reached, Garba round was getting over. Everybody was playing in their own little group.
Audio system at that point was not much audible. But it improved later in Dandiya round.
After Garba around they had 4 performances from ‘So u think u can dandiya’ competition.
Then Rail Gadi, Dandiya & at the end open DJ dance floor.
During rail gadi, adults started to play/dance so kids rail looked lost about where to go and broken.
During Dandiya, they played lot of non- guju, movie songs which was welcomed change.
Lighting was low during most part and became darker with disco lights for DJ.
Kairavi missed her M&M mixed prasad.
We were bit disappointed initially but then at the end of the night were satisfied.
Though couldn’t beat GCA or may be we will take sometime to come out of GCA mode.:-)
SEF Dandia was just too awesome. I think we made the right decision on skipping GCA this year and going for SEF instead. The music was too good and it was hard to keep feet from tapping and dancing.
I would not want to miss SEF next year as well. We had lots of KVites attend and in fact it could have been the biggest KV gathering in a Dandia ever.
Nitul bhai played great on the dhol and the entire troupe from Southern California was awesome.
Yes SEF dandiya was great.I would sure like to go next year to SEF 🙂
