KV Sports Day Games

Inviting proposals for various games to be included in the KV Sports Day.

This is an outdoors event and hence games should be of that nature. 🙂

We will have games for kids and seniors too.

Inviting ideas on all aspects of this event starting from “what is a convenient time (morning, evening)” to “venue” to “reward incentives”.

The idea is to have a 2 hour organized event with planned games and a well thought of schedule.

  1. Talking about timings I like the 9-11 am time frame.

One option is ‘run in search of vegetables’ for toddlers. One adult announces a certain vegetable. They run upto the destination where a medley of vegetables is kept for each of them. On the whistle, the goal of the kids is to pick the right one and come back fast. We may have 4/5 rounds on the basis of elimination. More the round, harder the vegetable.

Walking on Tiptoes is yet another game for toddlers. We can modify it as Relay by making team of two. They hold dandias one in each hand and pass it on to their team member who continues walking tiptoed to the destination.

For seniors, we can have back-walking race.

The evergreen Lemon-spoon and frog-race for any age group.

  2. For the vegetable game I meant,
on the whistle, run to the destination to pick up the correct vegetable and come back fast along with it.

  3. Yes. the morning part has the advantage that the kids will be fresh. Around 4pm some of the kids may be sleepy or just got up from sleep.

However 9am seems a bit early. 10 could be more reasonable. 🙂

Post sports, those who want to hang around can go to some local desi restaurant.

  4. Awesome games Honey. Keep them coming.

  5. If the day turns out to be a hot day like this week, it will get too hot in the morning. 5-7 or 6-8 (it’s sunny till then) time sounds more reasonable to me. Just my 2 cents.

    1. 3 legged race for adults.
    2. Sack Race(Replace sack with garbage bag :))

  6. I thought this is no food event. No meal plans please as games/timing/venue is discussed.

  7. No major food during the event. 🙂 But can plan for post-event lunch/dinner get-together separately over phone.

  8. Why can’t KV have a event with No pre-during-post food coordination/plans?? 😉 Common guys let’s break the trend.

  9. For venue park could be with may be baseball ground or similar accessible which typically have leveled ground for games.

  10. Games for adult – Create groups and have relay of different games woven together. Group can decide within them who will participate in which one.

  11. We are in.
I am not sure if it is good idea to combine sports day and picnic (boating)?

Lake Del Valle by Livermore is place for boating.

  12. For adults Langdi,Fast walking.

  13. Has anyone played Hunter-Bear-Woman (similar to the rock-paper-scissor) it will be a fun game for participants as well as audience

  14. how abt kho-kho, lagori

  15. Our local park has a baseball field, 2 tennis courts and bathrooms if you haven’t still picked a location

  16. sack race for kids – if we can get sacks from one of the indian stores

  17. hoola hoop race for couples: variation of the 3 legged race – couple has to go from point a to point b while holding the hoola hoop at their waist (at least on of the waists :)) without using their hands and without letting the hoop fall down.

tug of war for adults – instead of ropes, hook up hands to form a chain

lemon (we can use marble instead) in a spoon and/or book on head race

  18. Jaideep, Good Idea for the Hula Hoop. Plenty of things can be done with the Hula. Everyone is requested to bring Hula Hoop if they have it at home.

Honey, back walking for seniors is dangerous. If they fall down for some reason will be painful. Something else for seniors????

  19. Couple Games – We did with the ball @ waist between 2 ppl in one of the picnics and the couple holding handkechief thru mouth game at Gala’s couple of yrs ago.
Games for Seniors – fast walking, Needle and thread (Walk/run, put the thread in needle and be back).
Musical chairs would be fun for all – ofcourse adds an extra item of getting the chairs.

  20. Don’t really need chairs for musical chairs – could just have the players stand in a line. That would actually be gentle on the back, especially for the seniors & some adults too 🙂

  21. A fun game for couple – couple holding hands, a balloon tied on one leg of each person. There are mnany such couple within a circle/area. The couple should try to break baloons of other couple n are in game as long as one of their balloon is ‘alive’. the last couple is the winner. It not fun just playing but for audiance also

  22. ‘Share market’ for entire group including seniors n kids

  23. bidding for ‘Standing on smallest paper’ by one of the partner holding other partner for certain time frame (10 sec or count).

  24. Amita, Explain “Share Market” please.

  25. Thought. The garbage bag (sack race for adults)may have the possibility of tearing off during the run.

Game option for seniors sp ladies: walk or run, to fold three sarees properly and bring them back.

  26. make small chits of paper with animal sounds written on it like (moo-moo,meow-meow)atleast 7 of each sounds. pass one chit to everyone.than try to find ur group.
the fun of this game is when u are searching for ur group,u should say the same sounds which is written on the paper.
    this game everyone can play

  27. Amita, this latest game which you have put down is more of an icebreaker game than a competitive game.

The balloon game is a fun game.

  28. game similar to what Honey has proposed – Guys can have a tie tying competition – has to be double knotted.
