Recently we went to see Beach Blanket Babylon in San Francisco. Its a musical which has been running for the past 34 years. It includes references and spoofs on current events and current people in the news. The actors wear outrageously large hats and impersonate famous people. Featured in the above photo are Obama and Hillary.
The venue is small and as such you can view the proceedings from anywhere. If you are booking in the “rear cabaret” section you may want to go a bit early since its first come first seated basis and its best to be seated in the center.
I was a bit apprehensive about it when Dimple suggested it to me. But upon seeing the reviews from Yahoo! internal mailing lists, all of them had nothing but praise for this show.
Overall I liked it although I thought it was a bit expensive. We went on a Sat night but tickets are cheaper on Sunday and even cheaper on Weekdays. Persons under 21 are not admitted to evening performances. So leave your kids with a friend :-). Dressing is informal and you can wear anything that you like. The total duration is 90 minutes.
In summary, Its definitely worth watching and I dont mind recommending this to everyone.

I was planning to write but Prashant beat me with his editorial speed. I guess it better off coming from him since he was bit hesitant to go initially. Show met expectations and & I liked it. If you yearn to do something different time to time, add this to your list. Musical just has 8/9 artists and way they rotate between various getups is amazing. All the hats & hair do are remarkable.
Dress code is typical bay area style mix. There were folks in formals, casuals & shorts. There are multiple public parking garages for reasonable rate within blocks distance from theatre. So don’t sweat too much for street parking or don’t go to high rate, flat charge private parking.
Appreciate the reviews. However the tickets seem to be expensive. Purvi, it would be nice to hear your review as well since you were on the other side of the grass 🙂

we saw it way back in 2004 with my parents and my memory says that the jokes were very stale and since its not stadium seating its really bad view for the price.
Maybe there was nothing politically exciting going on at that time. There were just better shows and comedians that came to the city at that point.
Compared to the price the seating is bad. These are basically movable wooden chairs and there is little gap between 2 adjacent chairs. Hence its recommended to go a bit early to get some good seats.
