Campfire Activities

This time lets have some small planned activity (around 30 mins) for campfire. With such a huge group, we have found that certain activities dont work as well.

The campfire duration also has come down due to folks wrapping up dinner, kids, etc. If we can manage 30-45 mins of pre-planned activities for the campfire that will be great. The other 30 mins can be unplanned and impromtu.

We have about 15-16 families. How about we “enforce” each family do some kind of performance for campfire (lasting about 2-5 mins). These performance can be anything starting from as simple as telling some jokes, singing a song, acting out a small skit, making everyone play a simple short game, etc.) Those who want to make everyone play a short game will be scheduled at the end so that if the game overruns its time there will be no problem. As long as one person from each family does something, that family would have deemed to have fulfill its obligations for the campfire ritual. :-).

I will personally call all 16 families and make sure that they take out time over the next 2 weeks to think of some short performance during campfire. 🙂

This year we will not sit around trying to think what should we do during campfire. 😉

  1. I nominate Rohit from our family for some guitar strumming and singing. 😉

  2. For postcampfire card games late in the night, how about poker (Texas hold em variation).

Recently I got a chance to play poker and i thought it was a nice variation of teen patti. Anyone have Poker Chips???

  3. I vote we all go fishing in the cold night in slippers, waddle across some springs in the dark, hush each other at the prospect of doing justice to our bait just incase some of us Kutchis start singing Antakshiri.

  4. if all of us go fishing then the fishes are likely to run away from noise.

  5. Jain chokri.. sharam nathi avti.. fishing ni vaat kare che 🙂

  6. We will get the poker chips; its sufficent for 8-10 people.

  7. Thanks Ami. It should be good fun.

  8. Is there a plan for some planned activities during the daytime?

  9. The 2 Nighters will hopefully go on a short hike immediately following Sat Breakfast. (around 9am)

We should fix a time for a second group hike with everyone once everyone is there. How about 3 pm?
    For Hike#2 I propose:

Pfeiffer Falls Hike: 1.4 miles roundtrip, easy. A scenic hike along Pfeiffer Big Sur Creek through one of the park’s finest redwood groves ends at a 60-foot high waterfall.

  10. This has been noted as a Must-See in Big Sur Hikes.

    The McWay Falls Hike

Unfortunately this is 12 miles drive from our campsite. So either the 2Nighters can do it or we can attempt to do it on Sunday. (Have Lunch here).

  11. Prashant,
KV has covered the McWay Falls during one of the 1-day trip to Julia Pfeiffer Park few years back. It is a nice waterfall but the Saturday hike will already cover one, so lunch at the beach is a better option 🙂

  12. Yup. I realized that you cannot do picnics at McWay Falls.

  13. Pfeiffer beach seems like a good option for Sunday Lunch. Its the closest.

I would love to see the purple sand and the window in the rock.

  14. Pfeiffer Falls: Once we reach waterfall, is there a water access to wade or play.
In either sat. morning or afternoon trip is there a possibility to cover water wadding/playing access on the way or towards the end?

  15. I have been to Pfeiffer Beach once. It is absolutely breathtaking!! Sunset on the beach would be just perfect if we can include it in our schedule:))

  16. Straying from this conversation a bit and going back to the campfire activities I am amazed that nobody thought of raas-garba around the fire. of course, it will look a little better with painted faces 🙂

  17. Nitul did think of it, but I discouraged him. 🙂

  18. I hope all households will have a short contribution (3-5 mins) to the campfire. Please utilize this weekend to think of your contribution to the campfire activity. 🙂

Anything goes (song, jokes, short game, skit, standup comedy, mimicry, playing an instrument, anything on earth that you can think of).

I think dancing is a good activity during camp fire . If on the beach sun set is good than i would think eating bhel on the beach watching sunset is also good activity atleast it will reming us all about our bombay beaches

Just not sand water and sun but also good food….
