How about we venture out to do a group online project. To learn a new language. Since we are in California, knowing Spanish would be very helpful.
How about we as a group target to learn few basic words of Spanish through our website. To set a goal, a target of 50 basic spanish words by year end would be nice.
We can do this by :
a) throwing bits of spanish words in our comments on posts.
b) Having a spanish section on the site where things are posted just in spanish. And you need to go and hunt down the translations.
Thanks for starting the thread Prashant.
Anyone interested in taking a Hip-Hop (Beginners) class at Mission college. It starts in June (for about 2-3 months on one weekday evening). The class only costs $20 and I have personally seen this class in action. Seems like a lot of fun and good cardio. I plan to join but I would love to have company. The class is a mix of modern dance styles and not just Hip-Hop. Let me know if you are interested. Sorry Prashant for hijacking your thread. Asta La Vista Prashant.
Since i am next door to Mission College, I am interested. Can you provide details?
Go to http://missioncollege.org/class_schedule/index.html#dates
and pick the Summer Session 1 Courses link. In the pdf, search for Beginning Hip Hop and you should see the details. The class is on Mon/Wed from 8 to 10:30 pm.
Timings dont suit me. :-(. So will skip.

Spanish for adults and Hindi for kids. 🙂
I have a pretty good idea about how to go about adults learning spanish as a group (thru the website).
What about Hindi for kids? Bhavini, did you already have any ideas?
Si
Prashant i don’t have any ideas on how to make this into a group project. May be learn some kiddie hindi songs, get hindi books from India and teach. But is there any interest for hindi learning for kids?? For spanish the kids will teach us, you don’t need to spend time on it 🙂 Jash has taught me all colors, numbers and few other words in spanish.
I have a Japanese learning program – Pimsleur approach to learning new languages. With some effort and dedication, I believe we can utilize the principals to teach our kids Hindi. Miloni went to pathshala in the temple and has picked up Hindi good enough to read, write and converse – so that is also an option.
I do believe I have a Spanish learning program as well (I will have to look for the CD, though). If we plan to pursue this as a group with at least a few more dedicated folks then I am sure there will be good chance to keep going for a while and actually learn the language. Our kids might even lend a helping had here 🙂
I am interested also . It would be a great asset in my work to know spanish , I can talk to spanish teacher at my school site to get some ideas.
Are any of the kids Miloni, Prerena, Devanshi , Shivani learning spanish at school . They could be our teachers 🙂
I found a hindi learning CD in cupertino library. And it is good for a beginner. It does not have numbers, only letters though(vowels and consonants). So we are set on learning hindi at home :). And there is a gujurati one too in the library, need to get it though.
A free resource to print your own hindi worksheets. Ofcourse you can get books from India – but in case you don’t then this will surely be helpful.
