OSO vs Saawariya

Two big movie releases on occasion of Diwali. Om Shanti Om and Saawariya.

Which one are you looking forward to?

Maybe we can gang up and watch one of them in Naz8 (Where AmitV goes to eat pan and dance on Dhoom). I would advise those going to India catch this movie in the better multiplexes of Mumbai. They have awesome sound quality there.

For those that are stuck here, maybe we can watch it together 1-2 weeks after the movie is released.

I have my bets on OSO.

  1. Definately Saawariya… OSO maybe good but… SRK naaaaaaaaaaaah

  2. FYI rediff review has already thrashed Saawariya giving it 1.5 stars. With 12 songs, Saawariya would be too much to take.

  3. Interested in OSO, but not at Naz fremont.

  4. Saawriya is horrible!!!!!

  5. You saw it already?

  6. Or you are just referring to Amit. (LOL).

  7. reviews from India

  8. Sanjay Leela Bhansali makes over the top movies anyway. OSO is likely to be unpretentious going by Main Hoon na.

  9. Ok. Decided then. Nitul will go for C-grade Saawariya whereas rest of us will go for OSO.

I guess 2 batches (for people with kids). Any preferences for Tues or Weekends. We are talking going after about 10 days from the release of the film.

  10. Are bhai… OSO mein sirf SRK nahi hai… aur bahut kuch hai dekhne layak…

  11. Review from Rotten Tomatoe—1 star
HOW can it be that a movie as beautiful to look at as “Saawariya” is so . . . boring?

Perhaps it has to do with the fact that the love story, directed by Sanjay Lella Bhansali, is the first Bollywood movie produced in Hollywood, which has an annoying habit of sucking the life out of material.

The setting is a fairy-tale land where a Hindu boy (annoying Ranbir Kapoor) falls for a Muslim girl (drop-dead gorgeous Sonam Kapoor) who is waiting for her lover who has been gone for a year but had promised to return. (Both leads come from famous show-business families, but are not related.)

The sets and costumes are gorgeous, and the blue-hued cinematography (by Ravi K. Chandran) is pleasing. But the story drags, despite the fact that at a little over two hours, it’s short by Bollywood standards.

The characters fail to grab our interest, and the songs (10 of them) are instantly forgettable.

“Saawariya,” which translates as “beloved,” is yet another example of Bollywood trying to please everybody and, as a result, pleasing nobody.

    Running time: 2 hours11 minutes.

  12. I don’t trust movie reviewers of India any more. Watched “Laga Chunari Mein Daag” in Naz8 and all 12-14 ppl in the group felt it was good movie.

Later on I found out that the movie had been given the equivalent of One-Star (Bad) in most reviews.

Another example was Ta Ra Rum Pum. I felt good watching the movie, but the movie got an average review.

  13. You are right about that AmitM. Some movies just appeal to us whereas dont appeal to others. Depends on one’s mood also at that time and the environment in which movie is seen. I liked ‘Heyy Babby’ which i saw in Mumbai “fantastic sound system” multiplex. Whereas others who saw it at home did not like it as much.

  14. One batch went on Friday for OSO. Anybody going today??

  15. How about one batch goes on this Sat 1pm and the other batch goes on next Tuesday (Nov 20).

  16. if u really wanna enjoy this movie go in group …..thats the fun of it……

  17. For Om Shanti Om, don’t have very high expectations. (I guess I have to take my words back, about movie reviews) I got a mild headache watching the movie. First half is okay, the latter half is not as good.

  18. There is a thread going on in Indians list at Yahoo about Saawariya, OSO, etc. Some People are saying “Jab We Met” is a better movie than both of them. 🙂

  19. Prashant OSO is brainless predictable movie but still it does entertains…thats the beauty….
Becos we had no expectations from SRK movie i guess we enjoyed the first half…actually we were laughing all thru the first half…..
Arre AmitM itna serious mat ho ratings ke saath…..
