The other day while travelling with Nitul I saw that he had a device in his car hooked into the car power adapter slot. He was basically playing music from it.
I asked him more about it and turns out it was an USB MP3 player with FM Transmitter. I had never seen it or heard about it till now. (even though they have been around for some years now). This device had a USB key slot as the input. It broadcast the music on FM frequency (which is changeable) and his radio picked up the FM signal.
Since its all via FM signals there are no wires involved. In case of disturbance (since that particular FM freq may not be empty everywhere) you can change the channel on the device and then tune the radio. Some of these trasmitters come with SD memory slot as well and an audio input to take input from ipod, zen, etc.
Now a days a multiple of devices play MP3 and hence lot of songs are available in MP3. So now if you want to listen to new songs no need to burn CDs. Just carry 100 songs on ur USB key and listen to them. :-). I will soon put up my collection of MP3 on KV.
One kind of FM Transmitter available from buy.com at 20$. (courtesy Nitul’s research).
Had seen similar ($20) device in a friend’s place couple of years back. He used it for broadcasting it to his radio in other rooms.
But MP3 ones with USB ports seems better.
