Where were you during Tuesday’s earthquake?
WE had Diwali practice session scheduled at our place. Hiten/Ami, Mala, Rohit were at our home. We were moving the heavy center table when house started to shake.
Me and Hiten looked at each other and instantly realized its an earthquake. Our house does shake a little bit sometime when the train passes by but this was different. We both shouted Earthquake and ran with others outside.
Komal and Mala rushed to the backyard. At first we were the only ones outside. No one else was there. But in 1 min, others came out as well.
Whew we are just glad no major damage was done anywhere. Just a few shoe boxes fell in the garage.
We sure felt the ground below us shaking like a swing here in San Jose.
Jeinay and Niyom were sitting down in living room and got out of the home as soon as they sensed it. Our neighbors came out as well. No damages except for some things like clock which fell down. We wonder how Niyom would have felt..
I was in Safeway in the adjoining complex to shop something real quick. I was picking something from the aisle and things started falling down from the shelves. For fraction of a second, I wondered what was happening and then soon ran out of the aisle. Others doing the same. There was an announcement to step out quickly.
After two-three minutes or so, when everyone was back, we saw so many, many broken glass bottles like jam etc. and quite some things that had fallen down.
Hope everyone else is safe too.
So it makes me think; How many of us have made the emergency survival kit ready to suffice ourselves with food, water, light etc. for 72 hours, should an unfortunate disaster happen?!
All the RGA Gada’s were at Jatin’s home. Could see all the things moving on the entertainment center. Surprisingly we all sat quietly and no one got out of the building!!! Coincidentally on friday we had fire drill in office and we were just talking about earthquake’s and how come there is no earhtquake drill 🙂
The one thing i felt the most apart from being scared was “Bhago to Aamchi Mumbai”:)
I was scared to death as Nilesh had left for Diwali practice. Myself and Saahas was on sofa and I heard kind of a big moving sound and first thought someone has attacked the bldg but soon realized that its an earthquake. Wall clock fell off on the ground and some closet doors were opened. It was a very scary feeling. Good to know that everyone is ok and not much damaged was done.

This is a reminder that we All need to be prepared for Emergencies such as Earthquakes…
We should have Emergency Kits for our homes and cars as we tend to spend significant amount of time in them apart from our work environments.
Emergency Survival kits are available online or can be put together at home.
Some items to keep in the survival kits can be:
1) Food Bars – 3 day supply for 2-4 people, 5 year shelf life.
2) Water Boxes w/ Straws – 3 day supply for 2-4 people, 5 year shelf life.
3) First Aid box
4) Compact Blankets (These can be bought at Target)
5) A sweater or a Jacket
6) Radio-Siren-Flashlight (Stay well lit and informed)
7) A pair of gloves
8) Box Waterproof Matches
9) Emergency Candles
10) Sanitation/Toilet Bags
11) Roll of Duct Tape
12) Safety Whistle (Remember – Kate Winslet In Titanic was saved …)
13) List of Telephone Numbers (Cell may not work or may be discharged to get the contact list)
My self and Aashna were in Temple . I was talking to a friend downstairs after the Aarti and suddenly a loud noise and trembling happened I holded Aashna’s hand and first thing ran out of the building because of the Marble, and 3 to 4 other people also came out of the building along with us.
after few minutes came to know that a lady fell down and is unconsious as she was doing Pradikshna so some of them went to help her and she was ok.
Parikshit was worried as we had not reached home and couldnt reach on my cell.
Aashna was scared when this happened.
A smaller quake at 3.7 struck at 3:54 pm today. I did not feel it. a few collegues did.
Here is the link to the quake.
Also, as part of the Emergency kit,
Need to keep at least 2 utilities bill in your wallet. This would allow you to get into your own house during the calamity (for emergency workers checking the identity) and rightfully claim that this is your house.
