The Adventure at Lake Elizabeth

A young single kutchi male, wakes up a little later than usual on a beautiful bay-area weekend. He was still a little groggy from the seemingly unending work that he left behind in office the previous evening, unfinished.

Earlier in the week, he overcame feelings of disappointment, at the prospect of having to miss a picnic, because his boss wanted the entire 10-member team in office that weekend to catch up on slipping tasks. Luckily a majority of programmers including himself expressed inability to be in office that Saturday, and it was unanimously decided that the following weekend would be spent working in office (in lieu of being let off for the current weekend).

Our protagonist gets ready in record time, and sets out towards the picnic area, near a beautiful lake close by. On the way he glances at the watch a few times, more and more convinced that he is going to “miss-the-bus”, being almost 30 minutes late. On reaching the parking lot, he does not see anyone that could be of the kutchi community. He really must have missed the picnic, he wishes he had not put the alarm on snooze a couple of times before finally getting out of bed.

Feeling somewhat dejected, he decides to take a look at the picnic sites around the lake, walking along the paved path around the lake. But no luck (still nobody in sight). Halfway through, seeing that there are no more picnic areas ahead, he makes an about-turn…

Walking on he notices 2 gentlemen, with a badge/label on their shirts. This could be….. He approaches them and musters courage to ask them if they are here for the Kutchi Picnic. What a relief… He finds that they are indeed the people from the group he was looking for. They direct him to the place where the “headquarters” are being setup…. He is told that he’s the first one to be there that morning. Wow !!!

A whole day of games, food, networking and fun followed the adventure that morning. The jalebi & gaanthiya, the idlis, vadas, spring dosas were all very tasty. It is very easily one of the best weekends our friend has had ever since he moved to the bay area. He understands that lot of effort went into the arrangements, and co-ordination and wants to express gratitude towards everyone who made it happen.
