I am sure at one time or another we have all come across material on the web that we wanted to save a copy on our machines. When the article is on one page or has a printable version, it becomes easier to save the file. But what does one do when the article has several linked pages eg. a user guide or a manual? How do you save such pages locally?
When I was learning Java- a long long time ago, I had developed a program which would take a starting url and then options of how many links to follow to what depth and download all such pages onto my machine. This was very helpful to download online tutorials and courses without painstakingly saving each page individually and then fixing the links on the local copy. As time progressed and I moved on I lost track of this utility and to some extent did not really need to use it.
But of late in my role as Product Manager, I needed to maintain references for material on the web and what I discovered very recently is that if you have Adobe Acrobat (not just the reader) you can use the “Create PDF”-“From Web Page” option. You get options to pretty much provide the starting url and then punch in the type of links to follow and put all of the pages in a single pdf document – all complete with indexes.
Hope this is helpful.
Did not know about this. Cool info to have. Will be useful in a plane.
