Buca di Beppo
Italian Restaurant Chain….awesome Italian food that was better than Olive Garden….also more expensive
We really enjoyed their Garlic Bread, Garlic Smashed Potatoes for Appitizers
Gnocchi al Telefono n Manicotti for Entrees and Tira, isu for Dessert…..their portion sizes are huge ….HUGE……..small portion orders should be fine.
Ambience is very much like an Italian Diner….and for two could cost ou between $35-50.

Old Jerusalem Restaurant
Another place with great authentic middle eastern cuisine in San Francisco near the intersection of 26th street and Mission Street……
2976 Mission Street SF
Highly recommend their stuffed falalfels….never had something like this before …falafel balls stuffed with pinenuts onions and tomatoes……..
They serve turkish sauce and yogurt based sauce with pitas thats awesome too…..Turkish coffee blend of traditional Jewish coffee with cardomon just great….and then for dessert try kunafa(goat cheese served with cracked wheat, red syrup and nuts) very similar to Barai that is popular amongst kutchis….Not very expensive and ambience like a Irani restaturant not at all fancy
The items that you mentioned for Old Jerusalem Restaurant definitely sound mouth watering and looks like a place to visit on our next trip to SF. Thanks for the reco.
A visit to Buca di beppo can be made cheaper if two people share an entree, since portions are huge. Sneha, if you ordered two entrees, two appetizers and dessert, I am sure you took a lot of it home 🙂
“Dishdash” in downtown sunnyvale on murphy avenue also serves good middle eastern food. Forgot the exact names of the entres that we ordered but restaurant is worth trying once.
DishDash is definately worth a try…..
Prashant,
If you are looking for places to eat in SF, here’s one more in Embarcadero – The Slanted door. Its a modern vietnamese place with decent choices for vegetarians. Better to go with a reservation before-had. We have had to make reservations atleast a week before for our team lunches.
Here is the link for Vegeterian Entrees in DishDash.
I love Mushrooms and hence my fav. dish is M’shakaleh which is (Layers of mushrooms, grilled eggplant, cauliflower, tomatoes, and rice, served with a yogurt-tomato sauce.). Very Yummy and Nice decoration too.
I drink the Laban (which is spicy buttermilk) whenever I go there.
I went to Dishdash long time ago (don’t remember whether it was 2002 or 2003 🙁 ) and recollect that did not like their food. But seems that maybe it’s time to go back and retry. Their herbal mint tea just has boiled water with lot of mint leaves !!!!!!!
vote for Buca di Beppo. Wanna try Old Jerusalem.
Sanket it was Eye Bigger than Tummy!!!!
Sneha, which Buca di Beppo did you visit? Campbell, San Jose, Palo Alto or SF ? I have never visited one before and am now inclined to visit one soon.
We visited the campbell one…We know KVites who are fan of this place and who introduced us to this place..
Also their Pizzas looked great…but you know after the order list above we would have burst with the very thought of food….
And actually the Campbell one has a good location there are ton of things nearby Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Marshalls….
Slanted Door is great sides and the best Martinis but adds up to at least $50 per person without alcohol
No wonder we go there for team lunches…when the money doesnt come out of our pockets 😉
In Cupertino try Mandarin Gourmet for American-Chinese.
I have visited Buccas in SF and Palo Alto. It is a great place for groups but is noisy. For more fine Italian/Mediterranean dinning one ought to visit:
– Vin Santo in San Jose ($$$)
– Viva! in Saratoga ($$)
– Faz in Sunnyvale ($$$)
– Dish Dash ($$)
– Piatti in Rivermark, Santa Clara ($$)
These guys cook for veggies per request and without fuss.

The Buca di Beppo Famiglia
Visited a Buca di beppo – a place definitely for big groups, u get to make lot of noise 🙂 Kids had a blast. Ordered 3 appetizer and 4 main courses, 3 main courses were enough 🙂 for a group of 10 adults & 4 kids . The portions are really really big, but ideal for bigger groups. Liked Garlic bread with mozzarella, bruschetta in appetizers and Penne Campofiore in main course. Garlic mashed potatoes could be skipped as per me 🙂
We tried Buca Di Beppo restaurant upon reading this post.
Found it to be reasonably ok. Its good for sitting down in a group since no one cares there about the noise.
Garlic Smashed potatoes were good. and So was Gnocchi al Telefono. Bruschetta was good in appetizers. Did not like Penne Campofiore which is a pasta basically. It was too dry. We had to order extra sauce to go with it.
Items are a bit expensive. Per person bill ran out to be about 13$.
