Back Pain A Common Problem

Back Pain has become one of the most common health complaints regardless of age, occupation, gender, or health. There is a huge array of painful conditions affecting the back and spine. Many of these conditions are related to age, activity, or circumstances. Regardless of the type of pain you have, I bet you would do almost anything to be rid of it!
Physical Therapy if given properly would have helped. But there are other alternative therapies that too go a long way in managing the back pain…..
Hopefully you haven’t been in this condition…but if you have what have you done to relieve your pain? What type of pain do you have and what caused it?Recoomend therapies, specialists, exercisies or those self found tricks that worked for you….

I am going through upper back, arms and neck pain. Its acute muscle spasm and slight tear of the tissue in the neck area. Repetitive stress is one of the main cause of this pain.People have suggested yoga and deep breathing exercises. Vasanthi Bhatt (Yoga) in Cupertino is highly recommended by many people here. Another name my doctor suggested was Esther Gokhale in Palo Alto. She is into Accupressure and Healing therapies. I havent tried any of them but am gathering more information on these.

  1. Don’t know much about therapies, specialists on back pain. But we wish for your fast recovery!!

  2. For lower back pain, try stretching your hamstrings by sitting down and trying to grab your toes without bending your knees. There are other techniques (many suggested in a Pilates book). I used to have severe lower back pain. A doctor told me I had tight hamstrings because of my innate laziness. πŸ™‚ The tight hamstrings were pulling and tugging on my lower vertebrae. This is the most common cause. Ever since I started doing some basic stretching, my back pain has almost disappeared. Hope someone finds this useful.

  3. Me on the verge on lower back pain. The sitting posture could be a main reason for me.

Usually IcyHot or some other balm does the trick. Sometimes sitting in a hot jacuzzi also helps the muscles.

Thanks Jeegs for the exercise tip. Would be helpful.

  5. Moderate back pain exercise regimen that encompasses stretching, strengthening, and aerobic conditioning should help. The best way to deal with such a pain is to strengthen supporting muscles.

    – Almost every individual who has suffered from low back pain should stretch their hamstring muscles once or twice daily. Simple hamstring stretching does not take much time.

    – To strengthen the back muscles, 15-20 minutes of dynamic lumbar stabilization or other prescribed exercises should be done every other day (hand and leg raises have really helped me in the past)

    – Low impact aerobics (such as walking, bicycling or swimming) should be done for 30-40 minutes three times weekly, on alternate days from the strengthening exercises. Free style swimming is the best low impact exercise for back pain

  8. Sneha, wish you good health and speedy recovery.

See, Kutchvalley is glowing with ur posts being seen around πŸ™‚

  9. For wrist and elbow pain (which will lead to shoulder and neck eventually) apply ice pack has worked well for me. I have known folks who ice their wrists before going to bed or also just tie ice pack to the wrist and remove it later in the nite. Helps to relax the tendons and reduce the inflamation. Switch to a split keyboard. I have been using the Microsoft Natural Elite for the last 5 years and will not go back to a straight keyboard. If u work from home invest in a keyboard/mouse and monitor rather than using ur laptop directly. I also occasionally wear wrist splints from EBI (NJ company) which are way better than anything u get in the local pharmacy store.

  10. Also switch to left hand mouse.

  11. some of the things that were useful to me
back pain yoga class by yoga bharti, jacuzzi , brisk walking, hot and cold pack. I also went to chiropractor which helped me. The trick is to find what works for you. Give yourself time and do one thing that helps you .

  12. Rushabh either walking or sitting, makes my back pain go away πŸ™‚

Actually I just heard that a good way for all back problems is doing the sitting meditation (Da Zuo). It forces you to straighten all the channels. I had several outfits of serious back pains due to sitting too long before my computer and I could not even walk. I donÒ€ℒt have much time to do meditation. But when I do it a little, it does help a lot. And I feel very comfortable. You could just try the gesture yourself for free.

My back specialist recommended it for muscles tension causing neck pain, but I’m finding many other uses.

Tom Hendrickson, a chiropractor in Kensington, is the best there is. We were his neighbors, then my wife became a patient. His patients love him, and he’s respected throughout the community and by his peers.

I recommend Dr Kevin Wang, who is specialized in pain relief treatment. I had chronic back pain before and I felt significantly better after seeing him for a couple of sessions. Two weeks ago, my in-law had really sever back pain, and he took care of it after just one session. Very impressive. He speaks Mandarin and English, 30 years of practice, and accepts most insurance plans.

  14. Urmi and I have been visiting a Chiropractor. Manish suggested her to us and we have found her and her massage therapists to be extremely competent. Here are some pointers:

    Dr. Rachael Frozenfar
811 Altos Oaks Drive, Suite #3
    Los Altos, CA 94024
    Phone: (650) 941-4475
    Fax: (650) 941-4446

If you happen to visit her, make sure you go on a Monday and get a 15 min massage from Randy. He is extremely good. Btw, if you have Kaiser or any PPO for that matter, you usually get a free 15 min massage which is included in your insurance.

  15. I have tried Gundh ji Rab in the morning and heating pad at night. Very effective….
